Need a cite for West Hoboken/Union City[edit]

I've been looking for a source for Carnegie's financing of the old 15th Street library in Union City, New Jersey for that city's article. I notice that this article lists it (though it lists it as West Hoboken, one of the two towns that merged in 1925 to form Union City), but it lacks inline citations, so I don't know which source or sources given in the Notes and References sections support this info for that particular city. Can anyone tell me here? Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 19:16, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Import from discussion on Userpage[edit]

With regard to List of Carnegie libraries in New Jersey which you created some time ago, wondering there was perhaps a misreading for Union whereas it may have been Union Hill in Hudson County which later (1925 merge with West Hoboken) became part of Union City. A source at Union City, New Jersey#Notable Landmarks does lightly mention that the Union Hill Branch of the current UCPL was orginally Carnegie funded, but that is not to be found elsewhere. Can you shed some lgiht? Thnks Djflem (talk) 16:41, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My original purpose in creating those lists of libraries was to digitize a resource that was (and still is) fairly obscure in print; namely, the original lists of Carnegie libraries, culled from the four references listed at the bottom. As I recall, those lists were themselves pulled from Carnegie's archives, on microfilm in New York, and they reflect the name of the municipality at the time the grant was made. I can't promise I didn't miscopy the name, but I doubt I omitted an entire word. I didn't do any research on any of the state lists, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's some confusion with modern place names. I can doublecheck one of the original sources that I have access to, but it's not easy for me to get copies of the other three. Probably the best resolution is to pore through related media around the time of the grant to try to figure out where 'Union' is. Hope that helps!
