Column headed "Location" means what?[edit]

In this list and in List of Carnegie libraries in Pennsylvania there is a column headed "Location" but so far I have not found any list with data in that column. Should this be coordinates, or street address? In the Philadelphia list, I would like to have both, but I have hesitated to add an additional column without feedback from other editors. I have several photos of Carnegie libraries in Wikimedia Commons ready for a link in the Philadelphia list. Feedback, please! --DThomsen8 (talk) 13:07, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Answering myself, I now see List of Carnegie libraries in Arkansas has both a street address, followed by coordinates, and so do some other state lists. New Jersey, New York and Ohio are not among the ones with information in that column. That is what I am going to do for this list. --DThomsen8 (talk) 13:20, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Photos[edit]

Only Cobbs Creek and Paschalville are missing photos, which I expect to add within a week. --DThomsen8 (talk) 00:41, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cobbs Creek and Paschalville photos added. Perhaps Germantown may need a photo. --DThomsen8 (talk) 18:46, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge with List of Carnegie libraries in Pennsylvania[edit]

I think that this article isn't enough to be worthy standing on its own, and should be merged with List of Carnegie libraries in Pennsylvania. The amount of Philly libraries isn't enough to warrant a split. I started a deletion discussion with the intent of merging, completely forgetting that AfD isn't the right venue. (whoops.) Pinging participants from that (sorry again): Reywas92, A. B., and Jclemens. SWinxy (talk) 16:55, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with merging. Here's what I wrote at the AfD:
  • Keep. A search for "Andrew Carnegie"+philadelpia+library turned up multiple useful references. Here's a sample:
    • Example text
    • The Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia has an article about the libraries.[1]
    • The National Park Service has an article.[2]
    • PhillyHistory.org publishes a a so-called "blog" of history articles by professional historians; this includes an article about Carnegie and the Philadelphia libraries.[3]
      • This is not a "blog" in the sense of self-published opinions; reliability-wise, it's like the news blogs some news outlets have.
    • The library system has a long history article.[4]
There's more out there; this is a start.
I'll note that the sources all indicate the Philadelphia libraries are a special group. We lose that if we merge this list into the state-wide list.

I have no particular opinion on merging these articles. When I originally created lists for each U.S. state (and some international regions), the primary Carnegie library article had a hodgepodge of incomplete lists (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Carnegie_library&oldid=294531252). Because Carnegie had issued a single large grant to New York City and a similar grant to Philadelphia, I surmised that local editors with better access to primary sources might be able to construct regional narratives for how the communities ultimately used those grants. (List of Hennepin County Library branches shows a fine example.) @A. B.'s note above confirms such sources exist for Philadelphia's story, but sources on library history tend to be old and hard to find. McMillin24 contribstalk 18:32, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I would still support merging. The sources above can certainly still be included in a state-level article, with myabe a prose subsection describing the Free Library buildings. Reywas92Talk 17:10, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
