EDA companies come and go - at least in the past this happens very often. My proposal is to limit this page to existing or past EDA companies, but to not list companies which are not know to have a real EDA product but only interface with EDA systems. Also for every EDA company the name of their EDA products should be listed here. And finally this page should not be limited to the participants of a particular DAC conference. I am doing some disambuating, and found that the entry for EVE pointed to a nonexistant article about Emulation Verification Engineering and/or EVE. I changed the link to point to the web page for EVE, and verified on that web page that they are an exibitor at the 2006 DAC. Gerry Ashton 18:42, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since this page deals with currently existing companies, I would propose a new page with past EDA mergers and acquisitions. This information is well documented (press releases, published annual reports) but it is scattered across the web. The page could contain names of the companies, date, short description, price. What do you think? Philippe (talk) 19:23, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Citations[edit]

The majority of companies listed on this page, have no references and no products listed. If the company has no article in the wikipedia, please create a link to the company webpage. Other company names should probably be deleted. --Philippe 13:20, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think this is standard Wikipedia formatting; shouldn't we create articles for those without if they are notable, and not have external links at all?Davind 23:05, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia policy *requires* external links ( Wikipedia:Citing sources ).
I agree that, if a company or product *is* "notable enough for its own Wikipedia article", it should have its own article, and links on this page should go to that article.
However, I suspect many of things on this page, while notable enough to briefly mention on this page, are not notable enough to dedicate an entire Wikipedia article to them, so they should have an in-line link after them to the company web page.
That link is required by Wikipedia policy (Wikipedia:Verifiability) to allow people to double-check the information in the article.
Philippe is right -- if a company or product cannot be verified, it will (eventually) be deleted from this article.
For this particular article, the "in-line links" style mentioned in Wikipedia:Citing sources is more convenient than other approved Wikipedia styles that push the external links to the end of the article.

Old version[edit]

the major objection this page is linkfarm. On the other hand some of the redlinked companies may be notable, only there people have no time. So I am moving the whole old stuff here and removing all redlinked entries from the article . Mukadderat (talk) 23:04, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you don't mind, but I have deleted the old version from here on the talk page. If anyone really needs it, they can go to the article's history and find it. It shouldn't be necessary to replicate it here. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 18:47, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion of Target Compiler Technologies in List_of_EDA_companies[edit]

(I moved the following here from my talk page. See my response at the bottom. --Guy Macon (talk) 19:42, 31 October 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Hi Guy,

You removed my contribution about Target Compiler Technologies (domain name: retarget.com) from the page List_of_EDA_companies, saying "No indication that retarget.com is an EDA comany".

Target Compiler Technologies is a 15-year old EDA company (incorporated in 1996). It offers EDA tools in the Electronic System Level (ESL) segment of the EDA market. Some further indications of the company's status as an EDA company:

1) Company overview and product descriptions at the company's website: www.retarget.com.

2) Exhibited in the world's top-3 EDA exhibitions for many years:

  - Every edition of the Design Automation Conference (DAC) since 1998 (13 years on a row);
  - Every edition of the Design Automation and Test in Europe (DATE) conference since 2000 (11 years on a row);
  - Every edition of the Electronic Design and Solutions Fair (EDSF) since 2006 (6 years on a row).

3) Listed in multiple directories of EDA companies:

  - Gabe Moretti: www.gabeoneda.com/clickandknow/Directory_of_EDA_Vendors;
  - Gary Smith: garysmitheda.com/paper/Wall11_All.pdf
  - EDA Cafe: ecat.edacafe.com/corplist.php?category_id=&alpha=S-Z&cat_name=
  - Embedded Star: www.embeddedstar.com/vendors/name/embedded20.html

4) Member of the EDA interoperability programs of several of the world's top EDA companies. These programs are only accessible to other EDA companies:

  - Synopsys: www.synopsys.com/Community/Interoperability/SystemLevelCatalyst/Pages/default.aspx
  - Mentor Graphics: www.mentor.com/company/partner_programs/opendoor/partners_index/

If you were expecting any other type of evidence, please let me know and I'll see what I can provide.

Thanks. Gert.goossens (talk) 14:26, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's good enough for me. I just reverted my edit, leaving the page as edited by Gert.goossens. Thanks! --Guy Macon (talk) 19:42, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion of Analog Rails in List_of_EDA_companies[edit]

I have added Analog Rails and included a link to Analog Rails external website, because there is not yet a Wikipedia page for Analog Rails. Once a separate Wikipedia page for Analog Rails is created, then that external link should be changed. Analog Rails is a legitimate company that has exhibited at DAC several times, including 2012. Removed. WP:WTAF. Articles must meet Wikipedia's WP:GNG guidelines.thanks--Hu12 (talk) 14:47, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Hu: You may be surprised to learn that notability guidelines (including WP:GNG) do not apply to article content or list content (WP:NLISTITEM). The WP:WTAF essay brings up some good points, but the WP:REDYES guideline seems to encourage at least some kinds of red links. --DavidCary (talk) 06:24, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Replace "Altera" with "Intel FPGA"[edit]

After Intel bought Altera more than a year ago, there's a slow shift of terminology from Altera to Intel FPGA, which is why I am suggesting to replace "Altera" with "Intel (Altera)" for more precision, for future visitors of this wikipedia page.
