Jermain Defoe - not wishing to get into one of those 'yes it is, no it isn't' discussions but.....has Defoe's £9m fee been confirmed by anyone as it is not shown in the BBC ref?--Egghead06 (talk) 18:50, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. – PeeJay 18:54, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Benjani[edit]

Shouldn't Benjani be the last man on the Winter list? This point probably applies to several other transfers at the top of this list too, most notably Defoe's transfer. The point is that these transfers actually went through on 31st January, and were made as part of the January transfer window. They weren't ratified until 4th Feb, but they were submitted and essentially completed on 31st Jan. The 4th Feb date is more due to disorganisation than anything else, and let's not forget that they were ratified because the Premier League/FA was satisfied that they had been completed before the deadline. Graeme Lee[edit]

Graeme Lee's transfer to Bradford City should not be listed here. Although his former club, Doncaster Rovers, are now in the Championship, he was released by Doncaster at the end of the season, and was therefore unattached when he signed for Bradford, meaning that his transfer did not involve any Championship or Premier League club. – PeeJay 18:37, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cory Gibbs[edit]

Should Cory's move to the Colorado Rapids be on the list as a free transfer from Charlton Athletic? - Michael (talk) 04:45, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so. Gibbs was released by Charlton at the end of last season, so he was without a club when the Colorado Rapids signed him, and so he's not covered by the scope of this article. – PeeJay 05:57, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Transfer deadline[edit]

People seem to be getting confused by the transfer deadline. Normally, the transfer window is open until 23:59:59 on 31 August, closing at 00:00:00 on 1 September. However, as 31 August is on a Sunday this year, the window has been extended by 24 hours, meaning that it now closes at 00:00:00 on 2 September. I realise that this could be clearer, as the transition between days can be quite complicated, but I assure you that the article's lead section is correctly written as it is. – PeeJay 15:25, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's rediculus, why would they do that? - Michael (talk) 06:21, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Because business deals (including football transfers) cannot be completed on a Sunday. – PeeJay 10:53, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As a side note, for ease of editing, I think perhaps Deadline Day could be given its own subsection on the page. The current table is long, and deadline always attracts a huge amount of speculation. I think it'd be more manageable to give it its own section, even if it’s just for the duration of the day. Gran2 10:13, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see the point, tbh, especially if the two sections will be merged at the end of the day. – PeeJay 10:45, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just to crack open an old chestnut, as you can see by this article, the transfer window does, indeed, close at 0000 BST on 2 September. I was right. Nyah. – PeeJay 20:20, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Table Sorting[edit]

The Table doesn't sort the dates correctly. It shows everything that happens on the 31st of a month, then the 30th of a month, then the 29th, instead of sorting by august to july to june —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pernunz (talkcontribs) 03:04, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
