How are the show seasons being determined?

The season breakdown doesn't correlate with historical information about the show. For example, On August 26, 2010, TLC announced that the SIXTH season would be the last for the show. According to the accounting here, the sixth season concluded December 2008 and it was the TENTH season that began September 6, 2010. Also, in 2010, Amy Roloff said, "[A] few episodes turned into six seasons." So again, the 2010 shows are being referred to as the sixth season, but this article lists them as the tenth season. An edit back in March 2010 shows "Season 4 (Fall 2008/Spring 2009)", which would likely match historical references. Someone, at some point, changed the season groupings and now they're messed up.
