Notes on sorting

[edit]

To make the table sortable, ... were inserted in the Author, Age, Format and Present Location columns as follows:

Author column

[edit]

If the entry starts with attributed to insert the author name in place of "..." above.

Age column

[edit]
  • If the date is known, insert the date (yyyy-mm-dd or yyyy-mm or yyyy) in place of "..." above.
  • If the period (Heian, Kamakura,...), the century or the date of birth of the author is known, compare the start year of the period, the start year of the century and the birth date of the author and insert the latest of these dates in place of "..." above.

Format column

[edit]

The format column sorts by the type of work (handscroll, hanging scroll, mural,...) and in some cases further by subcategories (hanging scroll -> landscape, hanging scroll -> deity,...). The following categories and sub-categories have been used:

  • album
  • Byōbu
    • 2sect
      • p
      • s
    • 6sect
      • p
      • s
    • 8sect
      • p
      • s
  • handscroll
    • emaki
    • other
  • hanging scroll
    • mandala
    • portrait
    • deity
    • landscape
    • other
  • mural
  • other

Sub-categories are separated by a space from the main category and other sub-categories. A pair of 6 section folding screens (Byōbu) for instance would be inserted as: byobu 6sect p

Present Location column

[edit]

The column Present Location sorts by prefecture, then city, then temple/museum/shrine. Insert the name of the prefecture, the city and the temple/museum/shrine name separated by spaces in place of "..." above. For instance <nowiki>Kyoto Kyoto Kyoto National Museum for the Kyoto National Museum in Kyoto (city) in Kyoto Prefecture.Giants2008 (Talk) 23:11, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
