Who?

Alexander Nowell

[edit]

It appears unlikely that Alexander Nowell (c. 1517–1602) attended Charterhouse which was not founded until 1611, nine years after his death.--TomboPC (talk) 21:01, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe the last people on the list exist - "master of disaster" indeed!

Jeremy Paxman

[edit]

Jeremy Paxman did not go to Charterhouse School! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.147.92.16 (talk) 02:31, 11 October 2011 (UTC) Neither did Jonathan Dimbleby! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.147.92.16 (talk) 02:33, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Roger Williams

[edit]

Roger Williams, founder of Rhode Island, is on this list, and Charterhouse is noted in his entry. Is it certain he attended? MarmadukePercy (talk) 21:21, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to this source [1], Williams did attend and was elected a pensioner of Charterhouse 25 June 1621.MarmadukePercy (talk) 22:24, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Although Baroness Warsi and Paxo are listed as being old Carthusians, their personal pages say they were educated elsewhere. Anyone clarify? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.239.113.146 (talk) 18:04, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jeremy Paxman

[edit]

Although an article in The Independent refers to Jeremy Paxman being at Malvern and then Charterhouse, is this really true? Can it be verified? 86.148.7.112 (talk) 21:25, 20 April 2010 (UTC) Ausseagull (talk) 21:26, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sir Robert Abdy, Bt.

[edit]

Strictly speaking, despite the style and heritability of his title, a Baronet is a commoner (like a Knight) and thus not a member of the nobility.

Granted, I haven't researched this beyond the bounds of Wikipedia, but Sir Robert doesn't seem to have done much beyond what was a typical career for men in his social class. He went to Sandhurst and was commissioned into the Army. Married a couple of ladies along the way, though not concurrently--now, that would have been something to take notice of. I have no reason to doubt that his Army service was honorable and a credit to him, but I don't see anything outstanding there. I'm not sure why he is included in this list.
