Status dates[edit]

It seems that by convention, this info is usually deleted from the main soap articles (I've done it myself). It's been re-added here, and I actually don't object to it now that the cast info is in a separate list; the info is notable. Anyway, I don't really care either way, but perhaps the issue can be discussed here before editors start reverting it back and forth? TAnthony 15:58, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

January Lavoy and John Rue[edit]

Both of these actors have signed contracts with the show. It was reported in Soap Opera Digest shortly before their debuts on the show. Please do not remove them from the Current Contract cast list. 69.28.232.216 02:24, 10 November 2007 (UTC)samusek2[reply]

The character of Shane Morasco and Charlie Banks[edit]

It was reported in ABC Soaps In Depth that Austin Williams (Shane) is contract, and that Brian Kerwin (Charlie) is recurring. Both in the November 6 issue. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.151.176.30 (talk) 23:46, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lowice/Lois[edit]

I always thought that it was "Lois" too (as in Lois Cerullo from GH), but it was spelled as "Lowice" in the closing credits last January. 70.17.178.143 (talk) 14:15, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting! If you're sure, I might just put a footnote in about that to keep people like me from changing it!  ;) — TAnthonyTalk 16:44, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tobias Truvillion[edit]

Tobias Truvillion (Vincent) is not recurring. He is a contracted cast member. Just because someone is backburnered does not make them recurring. What does make them recurring is if they DO NOT have a CONTRACT. And on another note, January LaVoy (Noelle) is on CONTRACT until SPRING, somewhere around March or April. So please quit removing them from the "Current Cast Members". 65852002o (talk) 02:56, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just added the source for Tobias, looks like he is recuuring, but you are so right -- people make random changes with no sources or notes as to why. — TAnthonyTalk 03:03, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Now believable...I also read this on SoapZone. Such a waste in talent. 65852002o (talk) 05:11, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Red links[edit]

Please stop removing red links from articles ... they are perfectly acceptable per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links)#Red (internal) links and exist to encourage the creation of new articles. When these articles are created, the links to them are already in place. Obviously infant actors will probably not have articles anytime soon and can be unlinked, but an adult actor could presumably be deserving of an article at some point in the future. — TAnthonyTalk 17:23, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Perfect example: I just restored what were previously red links to the "Celebrity guests" section, and several links — including Kortney Kayle and Tito Puente, Jr. — now have articles. It would have been helpful if they had already been linked. — TAnthonyTalk 17:38, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really see it as a big deal one way or the other. When stubs are created, new links can be created easily enough. Why is it an issue? --Elonka 03:54, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The constant adding of “Lowice” and “Mac” to this list…[edit]

The actor and actress who plays Mac and Lowice are *not* recurring cast members. They are walk on day players who, every few years, may appear to add propping to the scene for two to three minutes.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a meticulously detailed fan site. To consistently include them on the list is not only inaccurate…but it is also a misrepresentation of the cast and adds clutter up the article…and the way it’s done borders on vandalism by these anonymous IP addresses (all sock puppeted by the same user…who would probably be taken more seriously if he created an actual I.D.), who for the past year has been continually doing it.

I’d hate to have to have this article locked, because there are a number of editors here who genuinely care about the integrity of it…and with the ever changing casting climate, it needs to be able to be edited according…but something has to give.

IMO any actor and/or character who isn’t recognized somewhere (even in the credits of other characters…like REAL recurring entities such as Jack Manning) on the cast list of ABC’s One Life to Live site IMO is questionable in their deserving to be acknowledged here.

Suggestions/Votes?—The Real One Returns (talk) 22:40, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think that you are absolutely mistaken. Achelis and Sklar appear every few months, not every few years. They are cast members wheather you like it or not. I'm just putting credit where credit is due, and if that is hard for you to believe, well then I apologize.00:50, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
I don't mind them being on the list or not, but they do appear so infrequently (and are so minor) that it seems silly to keep them on this "active" list. They are both listed in List of One Life to Live characters, isn't that enough? — TAnthonyTalk 06:03, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds fair. —The Real One Returns (talk) 06:46, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously the edit wars continue; we need to come to a compromise or some of you will get cited. Mr. IP, when is the last time these characters appeared, and how do you know they "will both be on soon" (as you noted elsewhere)? I'm hoping you can provide verifiable sources for this information, as many of your additions seem to rely on your own records. You may very well be correct, but if you are going to insist and revert, you must be able to back up your info when challenged. Thanks. — TAnthonyTalk 20:21, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dewanda Wise[edit]

I was checking the most recent issue of ABC SID and it mentioned that this actress was joining the show, not necessarily in a contract role. It said that she was rumoured that she was to play a character named Juliana, but that is uncertain. It was also stated that she would have something to do with Vincentès exit. I was just curious as to why that actress was not mentioned in the list. Has she already left the show?76.67.137.26 (talk) 15:51, 26 July 2008 (UTC)samusek2[reply]

She hasn't aired yet. — TAnthonyTalk 01:26, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tobias[edit]

I don't know what the real story is, but the edit warring over this guy needs to stop. Does anyone have a reliable, verifiable recent source that establishes his status either way? I'm talking articles in the magazines or a reputable site. Unfortunately, emails aren't enough. — TAnthonyTalk 22:36, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is a minor issue which is quickly escalating; OLTL2002, comments like this are completely inappropriate and this is just being childish. This quote is a start, but you have not noted the source, and it reads like a rumor anyway ("setsiders report").
Similarly Onelifefreak2007, an email is not a reliable source here, and neither is what you "heard straight from the show and actors." Your assertion here that he has "a big story coming" up is unsubstantiated, and I disagree with your statement here that "Half of most Soap magazines just make things up. Soaps.com is the best reference there is."
For both of you, the combination of your combative behavior and refusal to cite reliable sources damages your credibility in this conflict. I don't know (or care) what the actor's true status is, but it looks to me like there is no tangible proof either way. I added a citation to this article in the proper way, and I invite you to support or disprove it with similar citations. In the meantime, you need to step back and stop arguing. And for the record, by WP standards every single item on this list needs to have a source. Everyone seems to enjoy adding, moving and deleting information constantly without noting a source, and this is unacceptable. As the tag notes, "Unsourced material may be challenged and removed." — TAnthonyTalk 23:38, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Guess who appeared in today's episode? — TAnthonyTalk 20:12, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Extras[edit]

Being that there are extras in practically every episode, and they are normally only in one scene to top it off, does anyone else think that they should be removed from the comings and goings? --OLTL2002 (talk) 00:09, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, this isn't a Soap Opera Digest list of every person connected to the show, there has to be some notability involved. As it is, I think "Comings and Goings" information is too volatile and ever-changing to be tracked here. An encyclopedia is supposed to be a stable source of facts, not a newswire. — TAnthonyTalk 01:15, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, Like how someone (lol) put up Tanner Woods for a month and a half for a 10 second line. Who did that? EditorU.S.A. (talk) 14:11, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stan Lowell[edit]

Hey

It's not Stanley Lowell it's Stan Lowell, who cares if Dorian Cramer said Stanley, it's Stan. P.J. (talk) 02:11, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously, I had forgotten about Kevin O'Rourke's May 30, 2007 appearance. However, I was referring to whenever he popped up last February during the Go Red Ball. Dorian called him "Stanley", therefore meaning that his name is Stanley. Never was he referred to as "Stan". Stan is short for Stanley. Am I making my point clear? --OLTL2002 (talk) 03:49, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah you are and I know it's short for Stanley but you know Dorian she is so old fashioned, nobody hardly ever uses their full name. P.J. (talk) 04:45, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're right about "nobody hardly uses their full name", but the Mayor was never referred to as Stan. --OLTL2002 (talk) 14:27, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

But that doesn't mean that's not his name? P.J. (talk) 15:23, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since we obviously can't agree on anything at all, why don't we just leave it as "Mayor Lowell"? Thank you. --OLTL2002 (talk) 21:35, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A Martinez[edit]

Per ABC.com The character "Ray Montez" is not a current regular character [1] and "A Martinez" is not a current cast member. [2] If you are adding him back, please provide a reference that he has signed a contract with ABC. EditorU.S.A. (talk) 15:44, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not the one who has been adding him to the Current Cast Members, but I have heard that he is only going to be around for approx. five weeks from his debut last week. There has been no sources claiming that he is contract, except for the closing credits, but those have been wrong on several occasions. Probably not the best source. Thank you! --OLTL2002 (talk) 17:44, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have been adding him to the list and the closing credits are from the show so if it's from the show than it's accurate and if A Martinez is on the contract section than he's on the contract section on here. P.J. (talk) 19:59, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, then after, we can go to List of One Life to Live characters and change Margaret's portrayer to Tar Signor? Oh, imagine the fun. --OLTL2002 (talk) 20:34, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You know what people make mistakes alright ABC is not perfect. P.J. (talk) 20:43, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You might try taking your own advice sometimes. --OLTL2002 (talk) 00:47, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you should go somewhere else instead of bugging people with your ignorant comments P.J. (talk) 02:07, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is childish, and needs to stop. Which is why this is the last thing that I say. If you want to see ignorant comments, go look at your own messages on your talk page. --OLTL2002 (talk) 02:32, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ever since you came into the picture you always screw everything up seriously, I saw your YouTube channel and it says your 18, well guess what I'm 22 years old and I'm older than you and I know a hell of alot more than One Life to Live than you, you wanna do some editing than go to General Hospital, but leave One Life to Live alone. P.J. (talk) 22:01, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. You are older, and that is sad, because I am more mature. These kinds of messages are for user talk pages. This one is for List of One Life to Live cast members.
P.S. - I came into the picture before you did, so that excuse doesn't work. --OLTL2002 (talk) 22:08, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah and you screw everything up, and if your more mature than why do you put false information on Wikipedia? Lets see you got Tuc Watkins' exit date wrong, you also got Erika Slezak's exit date for her summer vacation wrong, you thought that Tobias Truvillion wasn't on the show anymore before he reappeared on August 6th, you thought the opening sequence debuted on July 31, and you also got the wrong episode numbers wrong. See that's 5 things wrong, what makes you think that you know it all when truthfully you don't know squat about One Life to Live? As I said before go screw up some other soap and leave this one alone. P.J. (talk) 02:42, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please excuse me...while I laugh. --OLTL2002 (talk) 02:47, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you laughing, you see how immature you are? P.J. (talk) 03:22, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, I am laughing at how you use the same excuse again and again. I don't know what kind of a problem you have, but my suggestion would be to get it under control. Please let me be the first to welcome you to planet Earth, where things aren't done just your way. (Next time, leave a message on one of our talk pages. This has nothing to do with A Martinez, or One Life to Live) --OLTL2002 (talk) 03:50, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Miles and Dallas[edit]

Miles and Dallas as far as I'm concerned are on recurring status. I don't know why they were taken off the list but they are on now. P.J. (talk) 14:04, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Would you be willing to civilly explain why you think these characters are still on recurring status? AniMate 20:06, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because I have proof that Miles is still on recurring status. Here check this out

Hi PJ,

Thank you for contacting Soaps.com! As far as the show is letting on David (Miles), Tobias (Vincent) and Timothy (RJ) are all on recurring status. Should things change, we'll be sure to make the adjustments in our Cast List.

Sincerely, Soaps.com Team www.Soaps.com

That is proof right there that those characters are still on recurring status, cuz they talk to the show. P.J. (talk) 21:41, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know about Dallas, but as far as the ABC character bio page is concerned (http://abc.go.com/daytime/onelifetolive/characters/bio?pn=characterbio), Miles and R.J. are gone. Yes, they don't have characters that are around, but if the characters that were featured were removed, it means they are gone, unless they decide to return (ala Adriana), in which case we can add them again. They wouldn't just remove a long-standing character like R.J. for no reason. Aside from that, an SOD article from a little bit ago, that I can get a scan of, cites David Chisum as being a past cast member. Sometimes they, along with Soaps.com or other soap sources, don't list actors that are recurring as leaving because they just disappear and are not used anymore. Besides, if someone is recurring, they're not legally tied to the show, anyway. Alexisfan07 6 October 2008 —Preceding undated comment was added at 21:59, 6 October 2008 (UTC).[reply]
Excellent. I'd appreciate you getting that scanned article from SOD, Alexisfan07. I'd also appreciate a link to the soaps.com area that lists them as current recurring cast members PJ. I'm asking because I think this is a good test subject for WP:WikiProject Soap Operas to help develop a manual of style or at least some structure when it comes to the constantly shifting landscape of actors and their contracts. AniMate 22:02, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, here are two scans from the online version of SOD pertaining to Miles. The first is from the June 3rd issue and the second is from the September 9th issue: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v615/alexisfan07/Picture2-2.png and http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v615/alexisfan07/Picture3-1.png. Notice that they mention in both that Miles IS off the show, and in the second, the Mitch Laurence return is PURE SPECULATION. Nothing concrete EXCEPT that Miles was let go in April. Both pieces are from the gossipy page, so the Mitch thing is definitely not happening. And Miles is gone. In combination with him not appearing for months, being removed from the ABC character bio page, and being off contract in the closing credits, can't we just say he's gone? I also think the same can go for R.J. He's in the same boat, generally speaking. Alexisfan07 6 October 2008

Alexis

I have proof that Miles and R.J are still on the show. If you look at the cast page http://www.soaps.com/onelifetolive/castlist/ you will notice that they are not marked as past like Lee Ramsey, Hunter Atwood, Hugh Hughes. That means they are still on the show. They usually do keep it updated pretty good. Plus even if they are not on the character page on the official website that doesn't mean they are not on the show. Look at Dallas, Nigel, Jack, Sam, and Bree. Those are some of the characters that are not on the character page at the official website, but yet are still on the show. P.J. (talk) 22:44, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't consider Soaps.com reliable at all. They always mess up dates and things like that. And they aren't going to update that unless SOD or ABC says they're gone. They're not their own source, they pull from the official sources. And yes, I know that these characters are around, but they're not important enough to get their own bios. Basically, it's contract cast members with the recurring cast members that occur just about as often. They leave out minor recurring characters like kids or babysitters. My argument was that IF a character has a bio and their bio is removed, the character is gone, and that doesn't effect the characters that don't have bios in any way shape or form. And you can't dispute what my articles from SOD say. Alexisfan07 6 October 2008 —Preceding undated comment was added at 22:56, 6 October 2008 (UTC).[reply]

The article says that Miles Laurence is being out but there was no official word from ABC, and that says it's even a rumor. I don't think they mentioned anything about R.J. Gannon so I don't know where you got the idea he was gone. P.J. (talk) 23:21, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They didn't. Like I said, recurring cast members aren't with or not with the show. That's not how it works. They have no obligation to report recurring cast members that disappear. I already said, ABC wouldn't have removed his bio if he was coming back. He's been on the show for over ten years. Also, why would they remove Miles but keep Adriana in the opening if the knew he was returning like her? They're both recurring. Also: http://www.soapoperadigest.com/features/one-life-to-live/cast/. Miles is no longer listed. Nor here: http://groups.msn.com/ultimatesoapfan/onelifetolivecastlist.msnw (nor in the recurring cast section). You can't argue with this many sources. Alexisfan07 6 October 2008 (UTC)

They removed him cuz he's on recurring Alexis. Just Ilene Kristen and Timothy D. Stickney. P.J. (talk) 03:29, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know who this is. Anyway, I also don't know what site you're referring to, but both sites I listed have both contract and recurring cast members, SOD not separated and Ultimate Soap Fan is. Alexisfan07 6 October 2008 (UTC)
Why not just leave them listed until the end of the year? Characters, recurring OR contract, that are barely seen usually pop up during the holiday's. So if they're not on between now and then, then I would definately say that they are gone. --OLTL2002 (talk) 03:03, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Being too meticulous with detail[edit]

Tess and Bess are sidebars to the overall Jessica character. There is no need to specifically list them as seperate entities on the cast/character table any more than there would be to do the same with Viki's bouts with alternate personalities, or Todd/TSJ's stint as Walker Laurence. It is being too meticulous with detail and adds clutter to the article. Also, listing "2007-2008, 2008, 2008-" for Moe and Noelle, quite frankly, looks silly. A simple '2007-present' works. Just wanted to bring this up for conversation before I went and edited the page. - The Real One Returns (talk) 15:54, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I wholeheartedly agree; I am constantly frustrated by editors who could be putting their interest and knowledge to good use actually expanding and improving articles, but instead fixae on this kind of minutae. I actually thing the "Comings and goings" section should be removed altogether, and the list just be updated when people actually come and go, but obviously everyone here seems so used to it, and they think this is Soap Opera Digest. Guess what folks, it's not. — TAnthonyTalk 17:52, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If I may say, I think that it should be noted that they did leave at one time this year, but as for the three or so returns over the summer, that should be left out.--OLTL2002 (talk) 21:02, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Andrea Evans 'Spring 2009' return[edit]

Please reference the link that supposedly confirms that Evans is returning. Simply noting "Reported in a Canadain publication" is not cohesive enough and sounds too vague. - The Real One Returns 01:38, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Comings and Goings[edit]

Why is Kamar de los Reyes and Jacqueline Hendy in the contract section when they are leaving the show? They should be in the comings and goings section and not in the contract section. It doesn't make sense to have them both in the the contract and the comings and goings section. Also BethAnn Bonner is not leaving the show, that was just a rumor. If you want proof here you go. "There have been internet reports that BethAnn Bonner (Talia Sahid) could be leaving the show, but BethAnn's camp told Soaps.com, "As of this point, we haven't heard anything to that effect." [1]. I just put a reference there of Bonner's exit. So why is she in the comings and goings section?

69.11.254.98 (talk) 00:06, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PJ, does it matter? It is not hurting anyone or anything to have them in both places if that's what the editor trend is right now. They are still on the show and so belong in the regular cast section for readers who may not keep up with the day to day cast changes. As I've said many times before, I actually object to the "Comings and Goings" section entirely because Wikipedia is not Soap Opera Digest, and articles should be stable collections of facts rather than constantly-changing bulletin boards for current events. The information in "Comings and Goings" is constantly in flux and only notable for days at a time, and no one is coming here for that kind of news. The main lists should be updated the day someone actually joins or leaves a show or changes status in some other way, rather than the "latest soap news" thing going on right now with all the shows. But I must remind myself that most of the soap-related "editors" around here are merely anxious fans making silly contributions for the sake of feeling like a part of the show, rather than those desiring to improve the quality of information about these series.— TAnthonyTalk 00:17, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ehh I guess your right, I mean nobody comes on here that much anymore, but I can see why it's there. I was just wondering. 69.11.254.98 (talk) 00:48, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Catherine Hickland.[edit]

No article edits. Just had to say that Hickland was gone. Actors don't get to go a year w/o their character being featured at all and still be considered 'recurring'. Nor would the soap press announce their return if they "never left to begin with." We'll see how long this new stint lasts… — The Real One Returns 15:07, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

You make a great point, it's an awfully long time to still consider her an active part of the series. But for the record, "recurring status" is just a PR term shows use to reassure fans and to not have to say "we let her go." They are theoretically stating some intent to use the performer in the future, and often do, but as it is not a "real" contractual status of any kind, there is no time limit. And it's basically meaningless. Any "recurring" character is just a guest star or dayplayer when they do appear on the show.
I make this point only as a segue to again state my opinion that the "Comings and goings" section is just plain unencyclopedic. Readers do not come here for soap news. Wikipedia is meant to be an organized collection of notable facts, not an ever-changing news feed. By design, entries in the comings and goings section will only stay there temporarily, as in days or weeks; I can think of no other types of lists and articles where this kind of thing is acceptable or sanctioned. Contract players and notable "recurring" characters should be added or removed to the appropriate sections when they actually come and go (or perhaps added slightly in advance with a reference). Again, I understand that everyone is used to this Soap Opera Digest approach to soap articles here, but have we not all seen what happens when editors and admins from non-soap articles stumble upon them? Notability tags, deletion tags, and all manner of destruction. All backed by policy, by the way.— TAnthonyTalk 15:41, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Table[edit]

This is the reason for talk pages, to discuss things. Something that no one has appeared to do prior to changing the appearance of the table. These things can't just be done because an editor 'likes' it this way. There is no need to change this, unless it benefits the article. Opinions and thoughts? Thank you! --OLTL2002 (talk) 18:46, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's fine the way it is. No need for smaller text, especially when people have reading text that small. A lot of other soap operas already follow this default format, so no need to complicate it or stylize it either. It also makes for easier edits with adding or removing credible information for new comers to Wikipedia. --Yllianos (talk) 01:46, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Celebrity Guests Section[edit]

This section is great and all, but I think it it's quite long for just one column; would it be a good idea to maybe make it into two columns? What does everyone think? --Yllianos (talk) 08:45, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I actually meant to do that yesterday when I was adding references ... I don't think that's such a controversial change if someone wants to be bold. It seems to not like the {{Multicol}} template, so I can try one of the other ways later when I'm at my own computer ... — TAnthonyTalk
OK, just realized my mistake with the template and applied the columns. This section is the one where multiple columns are easiest to maintain, because it is sorted by date and so new material should always be added to the end of the list, unlike the other sections. I also think the table is narrow enough that three columns will be fine on even the smallest screens, but let me know if there are objections. — TAnthonyTalk 17:06, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Should Nathan Purdee and Timothy Stickney still be listed as 'recurring'?[edit]

It's been months since they were last on, and no spoilers claim any forthcoming appearances. - The Real One Returns 05:16, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't see why this is an issue. They've both been on since Patricia Mauceri has, but there doesn't seem to be any argument that she is still on. They both are on recurring status, and can appear at any time. I think they should be left there for the time being. --OLTL2002 (talk) 02:49, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's vague as hell. By that criteria, we can still keep David Chisum listed in the recurring section as Miles Laurence, since it was never officially stated that he left, even though it's now been years since he was last seen. Hell, NP was never officially confirmed as having left the first time he did. His character just quietly faded away. Imagine if he had been kept credited as "recurring" in all that time. What a farce, I mean at what point should they be considered gone? What, in your opinion, does it take to reach that conclusion? You can't have an actor go months without being features, and their character completely disengaged from the canvas, and still credit them as cast members. That's silly. Ilene Kristen, Patricia Mauceri, Patricia Elliot, etc. all still have a real lingering presence, even if they go weeks without being seen. Characters played by recurring actors need to have that...otherwise keeping them listed in that recurring section becomes a bogus, inaccurate representation of the cast, and clutters up the article. As I said, there's been no word that Purdee or Stickney are slated to make returns anytime soon, and none of the shows current stories involve their characters, either directly or indirectly. — The Real One Returns 12:50, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I completely understand what you're saying, but it has only been two months since they have been seen. Most of the people listed as 'recurring' go longer without being seen, such as Peter Bartlett, and at times Pamela Payton-Wright. I think that they should be left there for just a little while longer. --OLTL2002 (talk) 18:56, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Red Links/Scott Evans contract?[edit]

The removal of red links has been talked about here. As for Scott Evans, there are no sources that indicate that he is contract. If one can't be found, he should be left in the recurring list. Thank you! --OLTL2002 (talk) 02:41, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mark Lawson linked wrong[edit]

Mark Lawson is linked wrong, on the current contract cast list, it's linked to the English journalist and not the actor himself. Just thought that error could be fixed. 71.90.0.115 (talk) 20:39, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Comings and goings[edit]

The comings and goings are beginning to get too long and excessive. Is there any way that this can be cut back on? It is actually getting a bit ridiculous, honestly. --OLTL2002 (talk) 22:39, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You know me, I've grown to hate this section, as Wikipedia is not meant to be an up-to-the-minute news reporting system (do we think people actually come here first looking to see who is coming and going?). I would boldly remove the section entirely, but all the soaps have them and the fanboys/fangirls who can't spell just LOVE them ;) I'm sure there's a policy that would justify such a change, I'll look into it when I get the chance. I just thing enforcing it would be a hassle. I honestly don't even look much at the changes here because it's such a volatile page.— TAnthonyTalk 01:56, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Format of Comings and Goings[edit]

Now I don't know about this to be honest but the Format of the Comings and Goings Page should be about the actors not the characters, but Cloudkade11 claims that this format has to do with the characters, and he says that at the time of Michael McBain's recast the format was all wrong. According to who, him? There is already a character page, why make the cast section about the characters, shouldn't that be about the actors?? especially the comings and goings section, it says that Tom Degnan is returning to the role of Joey Buchanan, that's what it's saying to me. This would confuse alotta people. But he is returning on Wednesday so, I mean. YoungAndWise (talk) 08:47, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just so everyone knows, YoungandWise uses extreme profanity and is beyond rude whenever challenged in a discussion. Proof on my talk page. So I don't see why anyone should even listen to this user. Just making sure before we add it on Wednesday, but Degnan will be on contract, right? I remember reading that they were "searching for the contract role to play Joey" on soaps.com. Terri Conn still on the show[edit]

Why was Terri Conn (Aubrey Wentworth) removed from the contract list? I know that the actress is not moving on with the show when it moves to its new online home early next year, but she should still be listed on the contract list since its obvious she's staying with the show until it ends it run on network tv in January 2012. The Aubrey Wentworth character should still also still have her own character page, and not be stuck in the miscellanious cast section.(talk) 23:49, 22 October 2011 (UTC)CBRVA[reply]

Eddie Alderson on Contract or Recurring?[edit]

Ok I wanna ge this straight, Eddie Alderson hasn't been on the credits on Friday's show along time from what I'm told, so what? Sean Ringgold has been on contract and he wasn't listed until the week of January 24, 2011. So does that mean he was recurring? He was signed to a contract last October, and in the opening sequence by December of last year. Therefore he's on contract, and he was listed in the contract section, from the way I see it, Eddie Alderson is still on contract, no matter if he's listed in the credits or not, is there a news article that says he's on recurring? I just got back online so I'm out of the loop here, I just don't see how ending credits of the show prove he went to recurring without any of the media. Plus he's coming back this month anyway. He's on the opening. 64.24.153.173 (talk) 06:34, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring about sources[edit]

In regards to the recent edit war on this article, I just wanted to point out that Soap Opera Network, Soap Opera Digest, Soap Opera Weekly's and any other soap magazine that is not a fansite can all be considered as reliable sources depending on what is reported.

I would stay away from from soap magazines when it comes to more general news such as the ending date of One Life to Live or the beginning date of The Revolution because theses kinds of news can easily be reported on ABC's official website or mainstream newspapers. But the three soap opera magazines are very good sources when it comes to document about actors that are leaving or going because theses types of news will never make it in the mainstream newspapers such as New York Times or Reuters.

So to make a short story, it all comes down in using some judgement when sourcing on Wikipedia. If it's a general news (such as the ending date of One Life to Live), stick to ABC's website or the mainstream newspapers. If it's for actors that are coming and goings, you can use the three above soap magazines. But in any case, fansites (such as We Love Soaps) are almost never acceptable on Wikipedia.Farine (talk) 16:59, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The cast list years[edit]

They look silly with the "-2012, 2013-" marking. There is no need to include this, since the show was on off the air for a year. It gives the impression that the show was ongoing the whole time, and that these people all exited in 2012 and came back in 2013, when that is not what happened. Yoryla (talk) 12:25, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

So what are you suggesting instead?Caringtype1 (talk) 15:11, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@Yoryla:Made this change. And now it is being contested. But they portrayed the characters consecutively in both 2012 AND 2013, so the portrayal is continuous. If the series had ended in 2011, such as All My Children, then it would be stopped, then continued once more. All soap pages, and character pages are showcasing this decision, as should this page. livelikemusic my talk page! 14:49, 13 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@Yoryla: @Caringtype1: @Soapfan2013: Your participation as a soap opera editor is required here. Thank you. livelikemusic my talk page! 02:40, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's not continuous, because the show stopped in 2012, that's where they quit portraying the characters, than the show got started back up this year making it 2012, 2013-, and if this livelikemusic even gave one rip about the page, he would have said something about it when I reverted his edit like a month ago. We had this discussion back when the show started, I think this livelikemusic likes to cause trouble for other editors, he sounds alot like Musicfreak from last year. It shouldn't be continious. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. P.J. (talk) 04:31, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

And your attitude is kind of bad, still. You keep turning things into personal attacks, which you've been warned against. livelikemusic my talk page! 14:15, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Okay how does this work out, first off the show ended on ABC January 13, 2012. The show started again on April 29, 2013. January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012 is one calender year, okay so 365 days after OLTL ended on ABC would be January 13, 2013, making that one calender year, So the cast year should be 2012, 2013. That's what I think. What do people think of this? P.J. (talk) 20:07, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As decided at WP:SOAPS, a calendar year is 2012-13. That alone is ONE calendar year. A two calendar year would be 2012–14. It is not based off of the last air date of a series and/or character. Or each character would be listed differently. It goes off of the calendar. It's already been decided upon by the Wiki project. Think of it as the years together. 2012–13 is one, 2012–14 is two, etc. It goes off of the back-to-back numbers. livelikemusic my talk page! 20:20, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I participated in the WP:SOAPS discussion and it was agreed that breaks of one calendar year or less could be discounted (meaning if the year of departure and return are next to each other, regardless of the dates within those years). It doesn't mean an actor portrayed a character continuously, it just means that the character appeared in every year in the given time period. –anemoneprojectors– 23:38, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Before they were stars" and dead actors[edit]

I think the section titled "Before they were stars" should be merged with the main "Former cast" table. I think describing them as stars is all about a personal point of view. How many movies, hit TV shows or magazine covers do they have to appear on before they qualify for the "Before they were stars" section. There are no sources to prove they are really famous. And everyone is likely to have different views. Therefore who ever wants to add a name to the table, in theory would be allowed because they view them as becoming a "star" since leaving. I have only heard of Nathan Fillion, Bryan Cranston, Marcia Cross, Tommy Lee Jones, Ryan Phillipe and Hayden Panettiere. So I would have not made a long list. There could be someone else I have seen in two TV shows in New Zealand and I could argue they are total stars. POV issues. BLP issues too. Tagging people as stars - were they not famous while on the show?

I also think a separate section for listing dates of death for actors is pointless. What does it have to do with OLTL? Can they not just simply merge into the "Former cast" table too?

In addition - the "Celebrity guests" section. Were they all playing themselves?Rain the 1 22:29, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree - those sections should be merged. The entire cast are "stars" because they all "star" in OLTL. –anemoneprojectors– 23:46, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yes! When you put it like that there is really no argument for not merging.Rain the 1 00:08, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Correct. But like you, I've only heard of a handful of "stars" in that list. Cross, Jones, Phillipe, Panettiere, Yasmine Bleeth and Laurence Fishburne. The rest could be complete nobodies for all I know! Well, I now know who Bryan Cranston is, but I didn't know his name before just now! –anemoneprojectors– 19:42, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Deceased cast members[edit]

Hello. I'm starting a discussion to remove the "deceased cast members" section on this article and articles alike. Firstly, the section is trivia; a cast member being dead is not related to them appearing on this series. Even if they died while appearing on the series, that should be mentioned on their character/actor article, not here. Secondly, the section is unsourced. We have a responsibility to provide sources for contentious information, and date of death is certainly contentious. That being said, regardless of if an editor sourced every single death, it would still be trivia... Thirdly, linking actors numerous times is overlink. In conclusion, every cast member will be dead one day. How is that related to this article? – DarkGlow • 19:14, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Boldface[edit]

Regarding this. For the record, this is a list of cast members that happens to be formatted as a table. MOS:TVCAST is clear about not using boldface for cast lists. Designating them as row headers is a stretch, and no similar lists I've seen do this. But whatever.— TAnthonyTalk 19:10, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

TAnthony and Bgsu98 I actually wanted to give my thoughts on this. I spent A LOT of time cleaning up this table in 2020 and 2021 and adding various cast members and characters so this page means a lot to me. I actually wanted to please suggest removing the bold face as
A.) It does look very strange
B.) On mobile view it makes the "cast members" bit much longer and means that the duration bit is smaller and thus durations such as "1990–2003" do not fit and thus it looks like
1990–
2003
C.) It makes it inconsistent with all other soap opera cast and characters lists.
D.) It does look visually unappealing.
E.) The MOS goes against this.
Hence, please can we change this back? There are also several other cast members that I want to add but have been wanting to wait until the change. DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 22:53, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The MOS does not go against this - in fact, MOS:BOLD states that boldfacing row headers is entirely appropriate - but whatever. Bgsu98 (Talk) 23:01, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What are these changes that violate the MOS?? DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 00:46, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I gave you the link: MOS:DTAB. The exclamation point is required.
Row and column headers ( ! )
Like the caption, these help present the information in a logical structure to visitors. The headers help screen readers render header information about data cells. For example, header information is spoken prior to the cell data, or header information is provided on request.
You can also read more about proper formatting of tables at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Accessibility/Data tables tutorial.
Bgsu98 (Talk) 00:51, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I know you gave me the link, but it wasn't very clear which one it was.
Wouldn't it be better to have the table like it is as List of previous General Hospital cast members? So then there is no Bold face but can still have the first column highlighted. DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 00:56, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Or simply how it was before? E.g.
| Russ Anderson
| Steve Holden
| 1987–88
|-
| rowspan="2" | Gerald Anthony
| Marco Dane
| 1977–86, 1989–90
|-
| Mario Corelli
| 1978 DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 00:58, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to do that, that's fine; but the markup required by MOS:DTAB must still be in place. Bgsu98 (Talk) 01:01, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
