W Chetwynd-Stapylton[edit]

"From 1894 to 1907 the Rector of Hallaton was Canon William Chetwynd-Stapleton who for many years had the distinction of being the oldest survivor of the early Oxford and Cambridge boat races. He rowed for Oxford in 1845 in the first race decided above Putney Bridge, and he was No. 2 in the following year which was the first race in which the crews used outrigged boats. On that day the Thames was full of floating ice. Born in 1825, the Canon lived to the great age of ninety-four."^[1]
