I found a very nice[edit]

copy of The Thinker in a cemetery in Denver, Colorado. It looks a lot like Rodin's, but is in fact signed by another artist. Does that belong in this list? Should we have a Copies section? Are there more or is this one I discovered an anomaly? Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 14:27, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

a few thoughts[edit]

In the list is says "Locations of original monumental-size bronze casts." What is the meaning and/or purpose of the word "original" here? Secondly, I have searched the websites of both Indian universities listed and have NOT found the Thinkers. I emailed both - neither had a good email address to use - and await answers, if any. So is it time for us to start insisting that references be included with each listing? Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 22:06, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Then, while looking through the Europe section I found this sentence.
"the thinker is also located in north carolinia in the national artists hall of fame"
which is so poorly done that it is removed whether true or not. Carptrash (talk) 22:09, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have not been able[edit]

to find any verification about any of these:

so I have removed them. i tried emailing the universities involved, but have had no reply. Please feel free to put them back with a proper reference. Carptrash (talk) 17:51, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Explanation of my many changes[edit]

Using an article from Cleveland Art Museum, http://www.clevelandart.org/research/in-the-library/collection-in-focus/rodins-thinker I went through and removed the following entries:

♦ Adrian College, Mich. This campus article makes clear that the school's Thinker is a replica: http://archive.adrian.edu/news/11_07thinker.php (Not sure how to remove the photo from the page)

♦ Trinity University, TX, The listing claimed a Thinker sculpture outside "Chapman Hall", I can find no photograph or article showing the Thinker at Trinity. There is a bronze sculpture, in a fountain outside Chapman, but it's clearly not a Thinker.

♦ North Carolina Museum of Art, NC. The Cantor Thinker was on loan from Stanford University to NCMA. It returned to Stanford in 2012 and as such I deleted this entry (the NCMA continues to have an original small-scale Thinker)

The Nelson-Atkins Museum's artist search function does not list its Rodin Thinker, but its clearly there. Malibugrif (talk) 01:55, 13 December 2013 (UTC)— Preceding User:Malibugrif|Malibugrif]] (talk) 01:53, 13 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jan 2014

I'm rather certain the North America list of original monumental sculptures is now correct and am turning my attention to the world sculptures.

In a BBC article, discussing vandalism to the Buenos Aires sculpture, the author mentions that the Buenos Aires sculpture is #3 of 22. [1] My goal is to find the 22. (This article, describing the donation of the NTHU sculpture mentions that there were 21 "original" larger Thinkers cast {http://www.nthu.edu.tw/allnews/newsletter/NTHU_Vol5No1.pdf]

I deleted the following today:

♦ OUE Bayfront, Singapore, There is a full sized Thinker here, but no articles that I can find authenticate it as an original. I have found numerous references to it as a "replica"

♦ Hilton Hotel, Amsterdam, Netherlands After running online searches, I can find no photo or article that describes an original Thinker here.

♦ Psychiatric Hospital, Bakirkoy, Turkey, The Thinker on the grounds is either stone or concrete, not an original bronze [2]\

♦ Switzerland, Kunsthaus, Zurich "The Gates of Hell" contains The Thinker, but not a monument sized Thinker which is the subject of this article

I moved the NTHU Sculpture from the original category to the posthumous pieces as the school describes it as 1998 copy. [3] Malibugrif (talk) 18:04, 7 January 2014 (UTC) [reply]

Exact original and early casts number?[edit]

How many (both during Rodin's lifetime and after) of casts of The Thinker were made? Please reply at link. The number at The Thinker page was 'about 28' (have removed 'about', as this should be exact, hence this question). Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 13:12, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Finland[edit]
