The link for Billy Miller is wrong. It links to Billy Miller the football player rather than Billy Miller the Y&R actor. 96.39.122.53 (talk) 12:17, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Comings and Goings" are not encyclopedic[edit]

Even though the "Comings and Goings" were one of the few portions of the article to be sourced, that doesn't mean that they are appropriate content. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball to be predicting/announcing events which may or may not actually occur in the future, we wait until they happen and THEN record them. Without being able to provide any context or content other than a celebrity is expected to appear the "information" becomes nothing more than an advertisement. For up-to-the minute news about future plans a reader should be going to the original source or gossip sites. -- The Red Pen of Doom 18:32, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wow![edit]

Whoever(s) did the new reconstruction on the page - it looks great! Much easier to read and more clear. Allukka (talk) 21:32, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just seeing this now (nearly 3 months later, aha), I reconstructed this page. Glad you like the changes :) yes it is far more clear. Arre 10:59, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cast Member Pages[edit]

Hey guys,

Who's idea was it to change every character's bio, or whatever you want to call it? Why do we have classification? Who really gives two shits (excuse my language) if they were a former regular? People want to know why the character is no longer on the canvas, and getting rid of that is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. We should leave the cause/reason the character is no longer on the show. Colton hockey11 (talk) 04:51, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Colton, please watch your language as some editors are offended by swearing. It is of high relevance. It's classifying the character as "recurring" or "regular". It's good clarification to have in an info-box. Arre 10:58, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Arre, I did not know saying the word I did was that bad, but I will refrain from it next time. However, I still believe that we should leave on the info-box why the character is no longer on the show. Colton hockey11 (talk) 19:17, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Who really gives two shits – that is bad language. If you're talking about "cause/reason", that has already been agreed upon as useless and unneeded. Arre 05:07, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand how that is useless, because most people like to know the reason the character is no longer on the soap. Colton hockey11 (talk) 17:47, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Recurring cast[edit]

IMO, there should be refs for this section. There is always confusion over whether someone is recurring or not, so it should be sourced. I think the main cast section should be sourced, too. Arre 04:03, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I totally agree with you. You can not have an cast list article with sources only belongning to Cast changes, it very important. Since, users are arguing wheater Christel Khalil is on recurring or contract. I believe she is on contract since she is on the opeining titles and she appears almost every episodes. SoapFan12 11:45, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Christel Khalil was confirmed to be on contract after it was reported she was departing and the role was being recast. 71.233.227.127 (talk) 17:28, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Michelle Stafford's Exit Time Frame[edit]

Soap Opera Network confirmed Michelle's exit as the week of July 29, 2013. I've included the full reference so you can add it to the cast list.[1]

Questions about credits (contract/recurring)[edit]

I had a little question about one of the recent edits. I noticed in this week's credit roll of the that Tristan Rogers was placed in the top part of the cast list right after Greg Rikaart. I know that like other soaps, when they have their cast credits at the end of the show, they list all the contract players alphabetically and then the recurring and guests right after also alphabetically. So i saw that Tristan was moved to contract, but then someone reverted the edits saying that the credits aren't reliable. I have no problem with that, I just thought was the norm and everything. I guess a real source would be good. It's just funny, as I check out a lot of soap cast list pages on wikipedia. there was this one soap where someone found a source saying that a recurring character had now signed a contract proceeded to move that person to the Contract section. The main editor for that show reverted the edit even if sourced by saying "Good for him, but at present, his name shows up in the recurring section of the credits." I'm just curious what is up with that? Is it different strokes for different folks? Just curious184.160.203.195 (talk) 20:05, 18 February 2014 (UTC)samusek2[reply]

The credits are the most reliable source. Unfortunately on Wikipedia who are somewhat in denial about that. Kogsquinge (talk) 00:49, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Here is an article from 2012 about Julia Pace Mitchell that clearly states credits are indicative of an actor's status: http://cbs.soapsindepth.com/2012/09/yrs-mitchell-drops-to-recurring.html. Kogsquinge (talk) 12:04, 18 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's been disputed in the past on the main Wiki project page that the end list credits are unreliable, due to inconsistencies found in them. Sometimes cast members can be listed wrong, or long after their roles have completed. And, for the most part, opening credits are as well unreliable. But most series keep their credits up to date with the current contract cast members. And that link does not prove that Mitchell stated that credits are "indicative" of an actor's status; she merely confirmed that she was put on recurring. There is a difference. livelikemusic my talk page! 03:21, 19 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Show credits are a reliable source (as decided upon yesterday - Please see below).Cebr1979 (talk) 17:51, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The ending credits are actually the most reliable when it comes to Y&R. They are updated quickly and precisely. It's actually this page that constantly has errors because people say that the credits aren't a valid source but, they are. The show knows who their contract cast members are and aren't. Random people who sit at home and edit the show's fan-made wikipedia page, do not. That's just ego.216.13.187.114 (talk) 03:16, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Linsey Godfrey and Jacob Young[edit]

Godfrey and Young were on Y&R for a short stint, which ended on April 16, according to http://www.soapoperadigest.com/content/bb-stars-crossing-over-yr. They are not on recurring status with the show. Kogsquinge (talk) 00:49, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That's because they were never on recurring status with the show.Cebr1979 (talk) 00:01, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Cady McClain & Elizabeth Hendrickson[edit]

As of today (May 13, 2014), Cady McClain is still listed in the show's closing credits as part of the recurring cast yet, she is being listed here as being on contract? Also, Elizabeth Hendrickson is currently on recurring with the show (also as seen in the closing credits) yet, she has been removed all-together even though her time on the show is not up?Cebr1979 (talk) 00:03, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As of today (May 19, 2014), she is also still listed as recurring. The show knows who they've given a contract to and who they haven't. She's been on the show over a month now. She may sign a contract in the future but, she clearly hasn't done it yet.216.13.187.114 (talk) 03:21, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Show credits cannot be considered a reliable source since they are not third-party. And Cebr, it's recommended you edit in your user account, instead of your IP. livelikemusic my talk page! 02:53, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In regards to show credits not being considered a reliable source, I found this: "I checked out that page and found nothing about not using credits of a TV show. In fact I found this page, which states you can use TV episode info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Film.2C_TV.2C_or_video_recordings So, until you point me to the correct page that says you can't use TV credits as a source, please do not revert my edits. Thanks! Jason47a (talk) 16:39, 9 August 2013 (UTC)"[reply]

This is also very interesting: "My point is, from those two links, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Film.2C_TV.2C_or_video_recordings and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Identifying_reliable_sources , a consensus has already been reached by Wiki in regards to the use of TV credits. My confusion is that you are saying a consensus is "needed to be reached", while I am saying that a consensus (based on those two links) has already been reached. So, having read those two links, what are your thoughts on the matter? Also, Livelikemusic, you were the one who asked for a discussion on this matter, but have yet to say anything since asking for this discussion, so I'd like to hear your thoughts about things after having read those two links. Thanks! Jason47a (talk) 17:25, 10 August 2013 (UTC)" Cebr1979 (talk) 03:18, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The fact that they are not third party is exactly what makes them a credible source. If the show say's an actor is on recurring, why exactly do you feel you know more than them? Please fill me in as to why you get the final say as to who is on contract with The Young and the Restless and who is not??? LOLCebr1979 (talk) 15:48, 27 May 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cebr1979 (talkcontribs) 15:46, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'd also like to point out that the show consciously went and updated Elizabeth Hendrickson's status from contract to recurring. They didn't just do that because they thought it would be a fun way to spend an afternoon. The closing credits for Y&R have always been thorough and precise (opening credits, not so much). If there is anyone that IS credible source about the The Young and the Restless, it would be THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS!!!! hahaha (Retracted)

Per Wikipedia policy, and previous discussions, the credits are not to be used as a reliable source. Wikipedia runs on third-party sources, and they have proven McClain's status. Continue to change it, and you will be seen as vandalising Wikipedia. And I have also removed your personal attack. livelikemusic my talk page! 00:58, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That wasn't a personal attack, that was a fair question: Why do you feel you know more about the show than the show itself? As you say on your own page, many people think you're a bad editor. This is most definitely one of those times where you are pulling rank over something you should have no rank over. I really want to know, why do you feel you know more about the show than the show itself?Cebr1979 (talk) 23:01, 29 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, that is a personal attack, as I don't feel I know more than the show itself. I'm merely following Wiki policies and decisions previously made by other editors of the website. It is you who seems to believe I know better. And once again, you're making things personal, which once again, is against Wikipedia policy. livelikemusic my talk page! 00:56, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WHEW! What a whirlwind that was! So, now that we know:WP:TV has absolutely no problem whatsoever with show credits wikipedia has no proeblem with a show's credits being a reliable source, I've gone ahead and re-corrected the Cady MacClain issue. Any further questions you have regarding reliable sources, you may feel free to simply ask me. Thank you for your time, I look forward to collaborating with you in the future. :-) Cebr1979 (talk) 16:33, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was aked to provide a source saying McClain was on contract, and I provided that, and it was removed. The choice for no tv credits was decided upon by the Wiki Soap Project. I'm now going to include other editors. @Creativity97: @Arre 9: @Raintheone: @Flyer22: @SoapFan12: @TAnthony: livelikemusic my talk page! 17:01, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sigh* You're deleting your own comments again.Cebr1979 (talk) 18:29, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The time to take it to other editors has passed. You've already taken it higher and been shown that the decision to not include show credits was never your decision to make. It's time to accept how things are done now. Cebr1979 (talk) 18:12, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have been echoed above. I know that Wikipedia encourages the use of third party sources where applicable. They are preferred over self-serving primary source - the show itself or official website. If the credits are sectioned and labeled to show which characters are permanent and which are recurring, then that seems good. As for the drama that is developing. Cebr1979, you should treat fellow editors with more respect. Towards the end of this discussion you appear to be more involved in a point scoring battle with livelikemusic. Nothing constructive will come of this should it continue that way.Rain the 1 23:02, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jenna Rayburn[edit]

Rayburn is her last name, according to multiple THIRD PARTY sources.

A forum is not a reliable source. SID/SOD/ONOS all refer to her as just Jenna. livelikemusic my talk page! 01:41, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • sigh* The forum is only one of three that I provided. The other two, even by your standards, are reliable.Cebr1979 (talk) 01:42, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, true. However, SOD/SID do not list a last name, and they are in all specific terms, more reliable than We Love Soaps and Daytime Confidential. Also, On Air On Soaps also does not list "Rayburn". 3 count vs. 2 count.
Do you have a source that say's what sites are more reliable than others? A third party source?? Or does all of wikipedia simply follow your own personal preferences? Good golly gee, don't keep me in suspense! I'm absolutely just dying to know!!!Cebr1979 (talk) 02:53, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Do you want me to show you multiple sources referring to Jess Walton's character as simply "Jill?" 'Cause believe me, I'll do it! I don't care how many sources there are saying her last name is Rayburn... There is at least one! It is reliable! It is THIRD PARTY! Done and done. Quit reverting. You're edit warring and you don't own wikipedia. Her last name is Rayburn until someone specifically say's that it isn't! Simply referring to her by a first name only doesn't mean she doesn't have a last name.Cebr1979 (talk) 01:51, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jenna's last name[edit]

Per the sources provided, and her status in Soap Opera Digest, she has only been referred to as Jenna. While Rayburn is her assumed last name, due to her marriage, it is not her confirmed last name. On Air On Soaps/Soaps In Depth also fail to mention "Rayburn". livelikemusic my talk page! 01:39, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The three sources I provided, list her last name as Rayburn. You need to stop acting like you own every soap opera page on wikipedia. Other people can edit too.Cebr1979 (talk) 01:41, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Per the sources on the main page, she is only referred to as Jenna. And once again, a forum is NOT a reliable source. I'm merely acting in accordance to WIki policy. Personally attack me again, and I'll report to the noticeboard. livelikemusic my talk page! 01:42, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've already responded to you above. Do you really need multiple conversations to go along with your multiple sources??? Cebr1979 (talk) 01:45, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jess Walton[edit]

Actually, we're all adults (at least I think we are, perhaps I shouldn't make assumptions about you), so we shouldn't be "playing" any way... Jill Farren Phelps has gone on record (you can google it yourself) saying she added Jess Walton to the opening credits to reflect her tenure and importance but, that she has not signed a contract. Her name is still listed in the closing credits with the rest of the recurring actors (like Cady McClain). Please don't start an edit war, we're not here to "play". This has been posted where the actress states "this isn't the end" but, then says "goodbye for now." So... we'll see her again but not for awhile??? Sort of contradictory. Should we remove her from the current cast list or wait and see?Cebr1979 (talk) 23:28, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Gina Tognoni/End Credits[edit]

Okay... Per the end credits (in Canada) on October 6, 2015, Gina Tognoni is definitely credited as "Phyllis Summers." In the US, this can be seen by checking CBS' October 7 episode (no idea why Canada is a day ahead of the US, it's just always been that way).Cebr1979 (talk) 23:51, 13 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Per the daily credits of the CBS airing episodes, she is Phyllis Abbott. I am willing to screencap this, to prove that she IS being credited as "Abbott". Also, Canada's credits cannot really be used, since Y&R is not a Canadian program, it's a US program. Broadcast credits should really trump soap credits, as it is more second-party than first, which is more reliable. livelikemusic my talk page! 00:08, 14 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Intro Paragraph - Longest Cast Members update[edit]

Since Doug Davidson and his character, Paul Williams, are no longer on the show (confirmed through multiple reports of him having no contract, not appearing on the show, not featured in the credits, and clearing out the locker room (also confirmed by himself), I think the intro paragraph is no longer accurate, since he's not involved on Y&R anymore. I suggest that the current paragraph be amended to state the following:

"The Young and the Restless is an American television soap opera, created by William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell for CBS. It first aired on March 26, 1973. Melody Thomas Scott and Eric Braeden, who portray Nikki and Victor Newman, are the first and second current longest-running current cast members, having joined in February 1979 and February 1980, respectively. Kate Linder has portrayed Esther Valentine since April 1982, and is the third longest-running current cast member. Eileen Davidson began portraying Ashley Abbott since June 11, 1982, 6 days before Beth Maitland began portraying Traci Abbott on June 17 1982, rounding out the series' top five longest-running cast members. The longest-running cast member of all time is Doug Davidson, who has portrayed private investigator Paul Williams since May 23, 1978, until his last appearance on November 19, 2020.

The following list is of cast members who are currently on the show: both main and recurring members, as well as those who are debuting, departing or returning from the series."

All information was taken from the Wikipedia pages of all the character pages. I looked at the duration of each actor in each role to determine who had the earliest start, and then went on their character pages to obtain more detailed information.

Let me know your thoughts :) 72.39.69.179 (talk) 01:05, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! I think that sounds great! I think the only thing is that Doug Davidson should that he was previously the longest serving cast member, and also about Jeanne Cooper also previously being the longest serving cast member prior to that (1973–2013).
