Microgun pod[edit]

In Col. Chinn's "Machine Gun, vol. V" there is a section on a gun pod with an XM214 5.56mm gatling gun. The pod was developed by General Electric. There is a sketch of the unit, but he doesn't give an official designation and I'm guessing none were actually built. Anyone else have any info on this gun pod? The XM214 was never put into a pod... at least not by General Electric (now known as General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products, developer of the XM214). I can research the exact number, but only roughly 14 XM214 weapons were ever built. VTFirefly911 (talk) 15:51, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

§ Descriptions of models – bullets to subsections[edit]

Hi y'all, I initially came to this article via a wikilink in GAU-8_Avenger#Variants which had just targeted the head of the article with a wikilink from a specific model name (as so: [[U.S. aircraft gun pods|GPU-5/A]]). This led to some wp:confusion on my part upon arriving as I'd expected to be brought to more specific info on a particular minigun system (GPU-5/A), not to a general lede summary about U.S. aircraft gun pods. I eventually scrolled down and found what I was after as a bullet point under the #Descriptions of models section. I followed up by first refining the original wikilink,[1] and then refined further by setting up a Template:Anchor instance.[2][3][4] However, while this solved the issue I'd encountered in a narrow sense, for a specific model, it's occurred to me that there remains a more general issue in place for others who may want to link other such items in the section.

Rather than expect others to remember to put {{anchor}} instances in place each time, it seems simpler to just convert the existing boldfaced bullet points into—readily wikilinkable—subsection titles (like === XM12/M12 and SUU-16/A ===, etc.). This would have the 'added bonus' feature of automatically also listing each in the TOC to aid readers arriving at the top of the page – as I initially had. I suppose one might alternately proactively add custom {{anchor}} instances manually in advance to each existing bullet point – but such an approach seems to be lacking in discoverability as editors would have to examine the markup code of the article to know they were in place (and no TOC 'bonus'). So at present, I will implement the subsection solution.
