DEFINITION OF FAD

A fad on YTMND is something that is varied and repeated on many different sites, not something that is done once and becomes popular. For example, "Nigga Stole My Bike" is a fad, while "YTMND Conference" is not (despite high views and ratings). "Nigga Stole My Bike" has been parodied and re-done ad infinitum. YTMND Conference, on the other hand, while incredibly popular, has not been parodied and repeated a considerable number of times. Until something is repeated/parodied significantly, it isn't a fad. ShadowMan1od 05:25, 14 July 2005 (UTC)

Well said. I would've deleted some of these things, but I didn't want to cause an uproar of disputes. I think I'll add "Before you edit, see the talk page" onto the article. By the way, I am very joyful that this page is receiving many an edit. MessedRocker 18:04, July 16, 2005 (UTC)

fads.wikicities

I think this list is a supertask and worth more than one messy wikipedia article, so I started fads.wikicities.com

I am mirroring the actual list here now. --Ollj 20:23, 10 March 2006 (UTC) done --Ollj 02:05, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Waits...

starting with darthmaulwaits.ytmnd.com, the waiting fad is definitely making a presence on YTMND with an equal number of terrible spinoffs as well as good ones. see obibathroom.ytmnd, etc.

screw the "most popular" section

disambiguate the most popular section into the other sections. It makes sorting and overview unnecessarily hard and it's not a neutral point of view.

I am thinking about it. I don't really think fads that are popular should be given a special spot. Maplejet 17:18, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Attempted fads

Is there even a need for this section? None of these are significant at all, and anyone could throw a few random YTMNDs in here and call it an "attempted fad". It's either a fad or it's not. ShadowMan1od 21:59, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Unless anyone objects, I think I'm going to remove this section for the above reasons. Any thoughts? ShadowMan1od 23:03, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Put it into the "Fad that fails in becoming a fad" fad section if there is one. Then delete it! --Ollj 09:00, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

What about Buoys? The Buoy fad began yesterday and is enjoying a long run. There should definitely be some kind of section for fad YTMNDs with outside influence.

Wikifying

Hi, I'm the one who wikifiedhttp://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_YTMND_fads&diff=27760932&oldid=27745126 the page, and anything you'd like to say about it, just tell me. Also, to ShadowMan1od, Fountains of Wayne's Stacy's Mom was a fad until the site went down the first time, then, apperently, all sites about this particular fad were deleted. I added it into the Music Seccion and you took it out. I won't add it again because, well, maybe we just want current fads here, I don't know. Anyways, words on the wikification, I'm all ears. Acid Ammo 20:43, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
PS: I just created this account, so it doesn't show in my profile my contributions.

Yeah, I did a quick search for it, and I got almost no results, so I figured it was just a self-fad promotion thing. We need to add something in there about the site wipe, because a ton of fads lost a lot of their entries that way. And thanks for wikifyinging. ShadowMan1od 22:28, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

First major trims

I went ahead and trimmed and re-organized. The biggest problem I noticed was repetition. For example, "Tarzan Boy" was mentioned in four places: the top, the music section, the Gay Fuel fad, and the Snape Kills Dumbledore fad. I limited it down to two. Please keep this in mind when you add things: remove repetition. I'm also moving a lot if not all of the music fads to the top section, as the songs themselves are not fads.
In addition to all this, I also cut down on simply non-notable fads. If I thought a fad was either insignificant or too small to be a fad, I removed it from the list. Also keep in mind that individual sites are not fads.
Finally, in addition to this, please avoid "usually accompanied by (other fad)" and "an example is". That's extraneous information that's either covered in the top part or completely unnecessary. This also applies to the history of fads. While this is interesting (I like reading it myself :P), it's considered to be crut and takes up space in the article. ShadowMan1od 03:48, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

May I add a mention of the compilation album of the popular music? Perhaps add a link to the YTMND site, and/or the download site? -Mysekurity e-mail 04:05, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the cutdowns, by the way -Mysekurity e-mail 04:05, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

1. Feel free too.
2. About re-adding Moskau, it's already covered later in the music section. ShadowMan1od 04:46, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
I just don't know why, but last time I checked, the Governator had more than 5 pages of YTMND's. Why would Ahnuld be removed if he had the same popularity as the others? --Seishirou Sakurazuka 05:00, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
Why would Schwarzenegger be a fad? That's like saying Hitler's a fad, and I'm pretty confident he's not an out-and-out fad as he is a popular subject.
As for the compilation album... as long as we're not listing it as a fad, which it isn't, it could be okay. --Shadow Hog 05:56, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Another Sailor Moon Live-action Fad

This has to do with the fad starting with Sailor Moon deflecting various projectiles from various Characters (the original being Sakaki from Azumanga Daioh throwing a snowball sailormoonvssakaki.ytmnd.com.) If you do a search, yuo'll find quite a few related sites. Just thought you should know.

It's a fad --Ollj 09:00, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Blue Ball Machine is a on the "Most Popular Fads List"?

When the Blue Ball Machine was added to the Most Popular Fads list, I deleted it, as the list originally had only 10 fads and I believed that a) Blue Ball Machine is not that popular of a fad, and b) 10 seemed like an appropriate number for a fad list. I also changed the title to "Top 10 Most Popular YTMND Fads", yet the next day the title was returned as was the Blue Ball Machine. A few days later, I added the Moskau fad, yet it was deleted withen hours. I realize that the original Blue Ball Machine is among the top viewed sites, but the fact that its seated in the Most Popular section is just absurd. I'm not saying it should be a 10 site only list, because I belive the Moskau fad belongs there. Because I don't want anyone angry with me, I won't edit that list anymore. Yet if anyone agrees with me I would like to see the Blue Ball Machine fad removed from the list.

Nah. I have seen too many blue ball factory sites. Maybe we could make a category about sides that have lots of views but relatively few spinoffs...: Artman40 22.05 14:04:2006.

Nah, this still should be added because it has sites than some of the fads listed. It's just a bit old.

Yu-gi-oh - "It's Time to d-d-d-d-d-"

The fad was removed from the listings during deletion. However, I did a search for "time to" and I ended up getting 2 pages involving the phrase. I also found a ytmnd suggesting it was a fad back in 2004: introytmnd.ytmnd.com/. I think this may be a fad and should be added back.

definitely a fad hard to search for because its hidden in many others starting with other letters like "c-c-c-conan" and not with "time to".--Ollj 09:00, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Gone without a Trace?

Earlier today, I went to YTMND.com, and I looked up the three YTMNDs that used to be popular:

  • Arnold Schwarzenegger
  • Zordon
  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

And the next thing I know, SOME OF THOSE YTMNDs like Japanese Arnold...ARE GONE and the pages are reduced to 1 or 2! What happened to them?! How could a part of the most popular YTMNDs become so unpopulatr?! What happened??? --Seishirou Sakurazuka 00:41, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

    • Ahem. There wasn't really a specific thing being mocked with Arnold. With Tom Cruise, there was the couch incident, the water squirter incident, a scene from Donnie Darko, and most recently, a scene from Minority Report. With Dick Cheney, it was his hunting mishap that got parodied. I don't know what happened with Zordon, but I did mention him with the Vader Sings fad. MMPR though is a little too broad. Maplejet 20:34, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

should we split movie/television into two differnt catagories?

so we could organize the fads more, since it's very broad to just put all the fads from both TV and movies in together.

It's not a feature, it's (something)

This fad has always a clip of someone playing a handheld console and a part falling off it, followed by something random. Could you give some information about this fad? Was there console that had problems like that? Example defectivesnitsky.ytmnd.com/. Lapinmies 14:43, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

It's a Sony PlayStation Portable, the early builds of which were NOTORIOUS for having the UMDs (game discs) fall out if you jerked the wrong direction, as demonstrated in the image. (Original being defective.ytmnd.com/ of course.) It's already in the list, and if it's not, it should be. --Shadow Hog 15:23, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
Oh, Thanks. I can't believe I missed it, I even typed PSP in the browsers search and still did not notice it. Lapinmies 20:24, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

"I'm Raven, I'm Raven....."

There are a number of ytmnds that involve a character that goes by the name of Raven, and features an unknown song going "I'm ravin', I'm ravin', I'm ravin' till the sweat drops fall down on me!"

Some examples: levyisraven.ytmnd.com/ Raven the wrestler imraven.ytmnd.com/ Raven the Teen Titans character imravenimraven.ytmnd.com/ Vulcan Raven the Metal Gear Solid character

    • I haven't seen that yet become popular. I don't think it's a fad yet.
  • This music is called 'I'm Ravin by German techno band Scooter.
    • That was a rip-off of a Shut Up and Dance track ("Raving I'm Raving" by Smiley, P.J., and Cohn, featuring Peter Bouncer), which itself stole the melody from "Walking in Memphis" (a subsequent lawsuit over this ended Shut Up and Dance): www.backtotheoldskool.co.uk/raving_im_raving.htm Back to the Old Skool Julyo 18:02, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

The Crazy Woman from Trading Spouses

There are ytmnds parodizing her and they're coming very quickly. Can we consider it a fad right now?

Probably. They're coming in fast enough, and we've already got several on the first few pages alone... --Shadow Hog 04:18, 18 November 2005 (UTC)

I'd say give it more time.

^ I agree. A ytmnd search for "ungodly" only produces a little over a page, and these sites aren't being made very much anymore. Wait till there's 3 pages.

another fad hard to search for because it is barely used in titles because it is based on a short sound file in awfull quality. --Ollj 09:00, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

American History X - Curb Stomp Scene

There's been an insane amount of parodies of this scene, including a HP:HBP spoiler parody, a Mario parody, a Yoshi parody, a George Bush parody, a King/Ronald McDonald parody, the list goes on. Can this be considered a fad since the scene is being insanely parodized?

    • I've only found little more than one page of such YTMNDs. – Iggy Koopa 02:39, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
oe of the worst tasted fads ever if you ask me, needs more penis. --Ollj 09:00, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Informational links

Can we get some actual YTMND links in here to show what the site is about? I'm trying to explain why this site is a modern art revolution. I wish I had a number of links in chronological order showing how the fad evolved and build off of multiple other fads. This would be a very informational task if anyone wants to build a tree of how YTMND fads evolved, using specific YTMND links.

YTMND and www.ytmnd.com the YTMND website should help you get started. —MESSEDROCKER (talk) 23:24, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
You can sort your search results by ascending or descending creation date; this should help in figuring out the first instance of a given meme. --71.244.215.148 00:47, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

You're going to want mroe than just fads to explain any revolutionary status. Internet memes and fads predate YTMND in just as many obnoxious, terrible ways. The memetic quality of YTMND is really no different than that of the All Your Base meme. Instead, focus on participatory art, absurdism, postmodernism, intertextuality (of the singular site variety, like what you'd find on a classic picture/sound/text site) etc. You're not going to impress anybody who knows their stuff just talking about the fads because not only are they the least creative element of YTMND, that level of memetic spread predates YTMND.

I am totally against direct linking to a YTMND. You're gonna have people linking their own sites. Also, alot of the sites linked aren't the originals. What I DO suggest, is perhaps a "search" link, so multiple pages of a specific fad come up. Fyrestorm 02:47, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Keywords wont do it. simple solution is liking to the one most viewed page as an example. --Ollj 09:00, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

That song had become recently popular on YTMND.com . Can this be considered as a fad?

its becoming one for sure.

Harry Potter / Hermione Granger Pervert Sites

They're popping up every day since those 3 original "Harry is a pervert" sites went up.

not enough by now

Actually there are about 10.

The Plan

This article has recently survived a deletion request, however there was no consensus. It was on that page I proposed my plan for greatly improving this page. This plan can be outlined as the following:

  • Removal of the list of YTMND fads, with the exception can be the very very very very famous fads. If these can't be decided, then no list.
  • Outlining the information in the list instead
  • Renaming the page to Fads on YTMND
  • Keeping all the other information

This way, there should be an immense cutdown in arguments, article fluff, and this could be considered more encyclopedic.

MESSEDROCKER (talk) 04:39, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
  • Congradulations, you are NEVER going to reach consensus on what consists of "very very very very famous" I'm No Parking and I approved this message 15:36, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

Emo..

Should there be a seperate section for emo related fads? There sure are several of them and the fact that they have a common relation might warrent a seperate section. Johhny-turbo 21:11, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

Jesus

While there have always been YTMND's about Jesus lately there have been more that have that song "Our God is an Awesome God" in it. Think it's a fad? Johhny-turbo 23:55, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

Jesus saves, definitely fad --Ollj 09:03, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Batman

The 60s show itself is becoming a fad beyond just uaelalelale w/e the spelling. On that note can someone tell me the song for the batgirldp I've seen it on quite a few YTMNDs. Bowen 23:58, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

At this point, Jesus sites are popping up every day and they're almost always accompanied by the "God is an Awesome God". I would say it's a fad at this point.

Stanley "Tookie" Williams

I think this is a recent fad as almost twenty YTMND's have popped up today due to his impending execution.

I wouldn't take it to be a fad, personally, it's just current affairs and YTMND has almost become a satire site that mocks current affairs. This will probably die down after a couple of weeks. I think one of the criteria for what constitutes a fad shouldn't just be sheer volume, it needs to be whether or not the "fad" is still going after a month or two. Sonic Sez = definitely a fad with new YTMNDs added all the time. MySpace Suicide = all but dead after a ridiculous drive that lasted a couple of days with the supply utterly exhausted over those days. --L T Dangerous 12:19, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Nothing Moves the Blob

Someone deleted this fad in the list of video game. Right now, there is only 1 page of it, but back in the summer of 2004, there was at least 2-3 pages. The majority of thie blob sites were deleted due to accounts being created by multiple users. This fad also pops up once in a while. Do not delete this at any cost.

Sorry. That was me. I had never really seen it before. I was in the middle of a clean up operation. I'm No Parking and I approved this message 17:20, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Repetition of single words in succession

You know, there's been quite a few of them. "Mine Mine Mine" from Finding Nemo, "Duck Duck Duck" from Ralph Wiggum from the Simpsons, and the most recent one, a loop of the "Bill Bill Bill" excerpt in the Bill Nye theme song. They are almost associated with pictures refering to the word or an animated gif going through all the pics. Could we consider this a fad.

Nah. But that is really interesting to think about. Fads are more consciously created than that. One guy has Chunk Addressing Congress and people consciouly parody that idea. This just kinda happens because people think it's funny. Also, Fads have a definite shelf life or beginning point. Can you point to the first of these? Your response follows. I'm No Parking and I approved this message 17:20, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
interestring idea but wrong.--Ollj 09:05, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

1920's Style

There currently seems to be a fad about taking things and making it seem like an 1920's film. So far, a majority of it seems to be taking YTMND fads and turning it "1920's". Lightning Jim 01:29, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

I havent seen much 1920s fads yet, I do not think its worth a mention.

Math is pwned!

There's apparently a good number of "Math is pwned!" sites, as seen here: [ytmnd.com/list/?start=0?sort=&order=desc&period=alltime&search=math&sort=creation&order=desc].

They originated from this site: [mathpwned.ytmnd.com/#].

Xbox 360

I think we need Xbox 360 listed under here. There have been tons of sites like the 100 dollar on and the graphical improvement one.

About the YTMND Soundtrack article split

Wasn't that article deleted some time ago? If so, then what good will we have by recreating it? -Pikawil 00:34, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps if we list the songs on the soundtrack and then refer to the fads in which each song has been used, then we would have some sort of "List of YTMND fads by song". --Damian Yerrick 20:49, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

"Ten-Bell Salute YTMNDs"

I don't see what's the significance of this section. — Iggy Koopa 01:40, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

Simple. This new section is for YTMNDs that have been removed or deleted in general. --Seishirou Sakurazuka 04:27, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

What do you mean "removed or deleted in general"? There are plenty of these YTMNDs still in existance. They're probably on YTMNSFW or something. — Iggy Koopa 05:20, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

Gay Fuel Rap Music Mix

There have at least been two YTMND involving putting "Tarzan Boy" with a rapper (voice only) to make it seem as if they are rapping to the Gay Fuel theme. Examples are Eminem's "Without Me" and J-Kown's "Tipsy". Lightning Jim 17:28, 15 January 2006 (UTC) 2 isn't enough for a fad Johhny-turbo 23:38, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

Supercat

Someone should find the origin of Supercat and add it to this list. It has gotten quite popular. supercatlifts.ytmnd.com/ supercatsaveskirk.ytmnd.com/ supercatsavesjones.ytmnd.com/ supercatsavesytmnd.ytmnd.com/ supercatrave.ytmnd.com/

ect.

PETA

There was an e-mail sent by a twelve year old to an anti vegetarian site. There was sort of a dramatic reading on ultamatom.ytmnd.com/. There is more than a page of PETA related sites, so would this be considered a fad?

I'm all for it because there is already less popular listed here.

The Little Kicks

I've noticed quite a few YTMNDs regarding The Little Kicks, or Elaine's dance from Seinfeld. There aren't that many as you may think, but there's more of them than other fads I've noticed. Crazyswordsman 20:01, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

  • Um, I really can't call this a fad yet. If people are using the same image without any modifications again and again, we really can't call this a fad. The same goes for the Jim Carey Ace Ventura dance scene. It never gets modified, just every fad song involving dancing is used for it. Maplejet 19:27, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

"________ Finds the Triforce"

This isn't listed, I don't think. And this has three pages dedicated to it on the site. Crazyswordsman 20:02, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

    • I swore that fad was there. It was probably an old fad that the trimmers didn't recognized when making cuts to the list. I'd go ahead and readd this. Maplejet 19:31, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Hermione's Secret

The visible mic that looks like a thong in Harry Potter 3 that Hermione wears has become a fad, I think. Small, but it should grow fast. Crazyswordsman 20:03, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

I've kind of thought it was part of the "Harry Potter/Pervert" fad. The listing is under Video Games since the song used often is Burn Bobonga from Chrono Trigger.

Snitsky

Should Gene Snitsky be added to fads? Lapinmies 10:33, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

There is no fad involving Snitsky. The only wrestling fads right now are Hassan, Randy Savage/Super Slam, and the Ten Bell Salute.

Where's Waldo

Should this be added as well?

not big enough.--Ollj 09:08, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Chuck Norris

I'm not sure if this is a fad or not. There's a ton of pages featuring him, but I can't figure out if there's a theme. They appear to be the result of the Chuck Norris fact list and Conan O'Brien's Lever Machine.

Carmen San Diego

She seems to be some sort of old fad...

Song Interpretations

There are a lot of YTMNDs that put together lyrics from songs with pictures literally interpreting them. Fad-worthy, I think. Examples - a-tack.ytmnd.com/ theheatison1.ytmnd.com/ dew.ytmnd.com/ rockitrocket.ytmnd.com/ sux4u.ytmnd.com/ exitlightsign.ytmnd.com/ cornonthekabob.ytmnd.com/

This fad is commonly referred to in site comments as "Dew Army" in reference to the original dew.ytmnd.com/ and the "movement" it started. More examples further up this page ... also check out massiveiguana.ytmnd.com/ itson.ytmnd.com/ bumbumbumbum.ytmnd.com/ insodomy.ytmnd.com/ and the not-as-worksafe faget.ytmnsfw.com/ Definitely a real fad, albeit one that's hard to search for. Dasyati 08:31, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
Gah, never mind, I just noticed Dew Army is already in there. Dasyati 08:33, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Safety Not Guaranteed

Lots of these, though only a few have become extremely popular. ytmnd.com/list/?start=0?sort=creation&order=desc&period=alltime&search=safety+not+guaranteed&sort=creation&order=asc

That fad was added awhile ago.

"You didn't say the Magic Word!"

There are quite a few YTMNDS involving Wayne Knight's characters (Newman, that guy from Jurrasic Park, etc) saying this line to a song I don't know the name of Crazyswordsman 01:53, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

It's "Better Off Alone" by Alice DeeJay. 81.58.51.131 08:47, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

"Viewhacking"

I noticed someone put something that said that the user A-Z2, being high on the name list, receives views when the site "resets itself to the default alphabetical order." Is there any proof of this? A-Z2's YTMNDs aren't within the top 15 if you sort alphabetically by username and the users who are within the top 15 have small view counts. – 67.189.246.253 20:13, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

I noticed it the last time I saw it reset. I've seen...

At least all of these in the Top 15 before (even if briefly). ShadowMan1od 23:01, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Calvin and Hobbes?

Should we add the Edited Calvin and Hobbes strip YTMND to the list? It seems to be getting popular...

Not unless there's a lot of them. I've only noticed the one. ShadowMan1od 03:36, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
Actually there's a fair ammount... ytmnd.com/list/?search=calvin+hobbes&user=

Added forum created fad "boyorgee"

It got significant, and it seems the YTMND forum users are dead bent on getting a page on this fad. It's better here I say. Dali 06:41, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Various Cosplay Fads

I've noticed quite a few sites making fun of cosplay or cosplayers. The two major ones I've come across are "Oogie Boogie comments on sexy _____ pics," which show bad (and bad looking) cosplayers with the clip "You're joking! You're joking! I can't believe my eyes! You're joking me, you've gotta be! This can't be the right guy!" The other one is "FF Cosplayers battle Kefka," in which severa FFVI cosplayers act out a battle against Kefka, featuring a screenshot of the ATB gauges from the game and such, usually set to various FFVI battle themes. Crazyswordsman 07:14, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

    • That's not a fad. They are just pics of cosplayers. If something happened like, "Raven cosplayer raves" followed by "Faye cosplayer raves" to the same song and similar, then yeah, we have a fad, but not in this case.
Just to remark that the Oogie Boogie YTMNDs fill a whole single page... Pikawil 19:10, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Boyorgee

I've marked the Boyorgee article for merging into this list. If the consensus is that it doesn't qualify as faddish enough for inclusion here, then please mark Boyorgee for deletion. Thanks. howcheng {chat} 18:42, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Hmmm... I haven't really seen the fad surface on YTMND much (maybe YTMNSFW, don't check there), so I'll leave it to other people to think about. ShadowMan1od 23:30, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Tomahawk

This is literally just becoming popular as we speak. It was based on tomahawk.ytmnd.com/ and has already spawned such sites as iamwhere.ytmnd.com/ and tomahawkcongress.ytmnd.com/. While still VERY early, let's keep an eye on this.

ALSO: lovemissile.ytmnd.com/, tomahawkhot.ytmnd.com, tomahawklogicrevealed.ytmnd.com/, kirbyknowsmissles.ytmnd.com/, and of course the one featuring vandalism of the Wiki article on the axe, oldstyletomahawk.ytmnd.com/.

___________Goes to the Mayor

Various fads are being remade in Tom Goes to the Mayor style. Here are some examples:

  • pgttm.ytmnd.com/ Picard Goes to the Mayor
  • conantgttm.ytmnd.com/ Conan..... GOES TO THE MAYOR!
  • briangoestothemayor.ytmnd.com/ Brian Peppers Goes to the Mayor
  • whatislovegoestothemayor.ytmnd.com/ What is Going to the Mayor?

Crazyswordsman 03:25, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

This fad started and ended late last year, around Halloween, IIRC. I dunno if this was pervasive enough to get a mention. Other opinions? iKato 04:36, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

Direct Linking to YTMNDS

I put this there to get your attention. Anyway, what do you guys think about the idea of linking to the YTMND that started each fad? This is kind of "citing sources," and will make any arguement of "Original Research" if this ever gets VfD'd again moot. Crazyswordsman 04:49, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

Sounds good, I'll start doing it now. ShadowMan1od 04:59, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
Added links for major sections. Someone please do the other ones, I'm incredibly tired. ShadowMan1od 05:16, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
I did the movies. Crazyswordsman 19:04, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
Well they've just been deleted, leaving a note on Fyrestorm's talk page. ShadowMan1od 04:40, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Reposted from above: I am totally against direct linking to a YTMND. You're gonna have people linking their own sites. Also, alot of the sites linked aren't the originals. What I DO suggest, is perhaps a "search" link, so multiple pages of a specific fad come up. Fyrestorm 02:49, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

If someone links to their own sites, we'll revert them. We can't put a halt on our entire operation just because of a minority of rogues. There are some people (some DJH47 guy or something) here that are trying to get us kicked off because a small number of YTMND members vandalize Wikipedia. We're against this, and we just want our piece of the pie. We put the links up as citations. If it gets out of hand, we'll stop it, but just at least please give us a chance first? Crazyswordsman 08:10, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
This HAS had a chance before, and it constantly gets vandalized. I recommend a link to a YTMND keyword or search. Fyrestorm 17:15, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
That actually sounds pretty good, though there'll still probably be some debate over what terms to use. ShadowMan1od 22:20, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

MacGyver and Lamb Chop

Here are some examples of these new ones: schoolbussaved.ytmnd.com/ startreksaved.ytmnd.com/ macgyverasteroid.ytmnd.com/

blacksheeplabel.ytmnd.com/ lambchopindestructible.ytmnd.com/ goatchop.ytmnd.com/

Go ahead and add both. I'm seeing more and more of both Lamb Chop and MacGuyver.

Dick Cheney Hunting Incident

It really appears to be a fad. There was at least one full page when I checked, including various parodies of Duck Hunt/Doom as well as the indestructible one

I think we might wanna just make "current events" a fad, period, so we don't have to keep adding them. ShadowMan1od 22:20, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Look at this Photograph

www.ytmnd.com/list/?search=photograph&user=

There's been a few of these, about a page last I checked.

    • It appears to be an attempted fad, but it didn't really catch on. I'd put it with the attempted fads section. Note that some of the sites at the bottom were made by the same user.

DEW!

I wonder how come David Hasselhoff's Dew song isn't on here. It at least has sites paroding it...--LBMixPro<Speak|on|it!> 23:42, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

The original YTMND

I don't understand why the original YTMND is a fad. Can this be clarified, please? --Acid Ammo 19:55, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

It's explained at the top of the article. Since the original wasn't parodied so much to make a fad.... Unless you include the Alex Trebek one. --LBMixPro<Speak|on|it!> 08:00, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Strokin'

This fad has been appearing at YTMND as of late. This is a song by Clarence Carter and this YTMND usually involves one stroking an object, with the song Strokin' playing. I declare this as a fad, if it has more than 20 sites. --VelairWight 20:15, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

  • That's kind of tough...I've seen the song as a popular music choice, not a fad.

Marvin Wayne Stevens

Since so many Marvin Wayne Stevens sites have popped up in the past few days (the original being newsexualsheriff.ytmnd.com/) I think this should be added to the list. It was on the front page yesterday also. 24.176.199.123 00:58, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Not really...haven't seen too many pop up. It's not a full-blown fad...yet

Homer Simpson is ____

A small fad that depicts Homer from the popular television series, The Simpsons, as various RPG bosses. (Usually Final Fantasy bosses) The background music is usually that bosses battle music remixed with Homer sayig Do'h over and over in varied patterns to go with the music.

All these YTMNDs are being made by the same person, so it's not a fad. Crazyswordsman 02:07, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Wonka?

Is the Willy Wonka thing really a 'major' fad? I've been with the YTMND site since early 2004, and as far as I can remember, Wonka was never a major fad. PlatformerMastah 02:49, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Punch The Keys for God's Sake

Ever since the originalytmndscene.ytmnd.com/ original ytmnd scene came out, there have been a great deal of Punch the Keys for God's Sake ytmnds. www.ytmnd.com/list/?search=ptkfgs Plus the ytmnda.ytmnd.com/ alternate ptkfgs universe. (parodies existing ytmnds)

I suggest giving the PTKFGS sites a whole section on their own, explaining their origin and variations to original fads.
Why bother? Just mentioning PTKFGS (which has already happened, well before this subsection was posted here), and then a subnote noting that various takes on an alternate universe's YTMND also constitute a fad, should be more than enough. --Shadow Hog 19:58, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

At the moment, the SNG article is a complex version of what's already written here. Since SNG is something which originated from YTMND, and hasn't gone much further than that (as far as I know) you think we should merge what's not in its entry on the list and redirect SNG to here. --LBMixPro<Speak|on|it!> 11:42, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

I thought a merge&redirect was the way to go back during the original AFD, and my opinion on the matter hasn't changed. -Colin Kimbrell 18:23, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Absolutely agree. --Hamiltonian 04:29, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
The picture is a worthwhile addition, but someone needs to track down the original source info for the shot. Otherwise, it'll just be deleted again for lack of copyright info. -Colin Kimbrell 17:21, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
I don't think it should be merged, as Safety not Guaranteed did not originate on YTMND. The SNG article should probably just be deleted. NightShade 08:18, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

"....is serious business"

What do you guys think? over 200 sites. -leigh (φθόγγος) 13:52, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

    • I'm quite unsure how to describe it. The "WoW is serious business" site was the start of the Cloudsong fad. I really though can't find a common thing with these "serious business sites." Maplejet 14:08, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

SITES ABOUT USERS ARE NOT FADS!!

(ex: Joshcube, VinnyWeapons, Inkdrinker, syncan)

Stop adding in these sites to the fad list. There are tons of sites about Family Guy, but it's not a YTMND fad. A fad involve an changing an original idea, not posting every single thing they say.

I disagree and I cut the sections name.--Ollj 14:29, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Some users are sufficiently quirky enough and/or popular enough that they have fad followings. Get it? (Vance Clarend 22:08, 4 April 2006 (UTC))
There's been quite a few user fads that are either inexistant or not too many. People like tehpwner, Jammno, syncan, they all have around 1 whole page, but others like michale wolfson and fyrestorm only have 5 or 6. Make sure there's at least around 1 whole page of sites before adding any in. And remember, this is based on ytmnds, not on their presence in forums. Maplejet 20:46, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

YESYES!

What happened to the YESYES list? I believe it should be noted in the Fad list. I also believe there are at www.ytmnd.com/list/?search=yesyes least 2 pages worth of YESYES sites when you run a search for this. I have seen the YESYES list here before, but I recon it was removed. Any particular reason for this? I think it should've stayed up on the list, considering it's another alternate universe to YTMND and PTKFGS. - 04:06, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

No. YESYES is disliked by many people and was an attemped and failed fad. Also, 2 pages are not enough. PTKFGS has tons of sites being worthy of a fad.

  • Actually, there's at least 1 whole page of YESYES sites. I would still mention this in the ptkfgs section, but that should be it.
    • I put a line about it under the PTKFGS fad. It should not be removed, and that's all that there should ever be about it. Crazyswordsman 02:47, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

When Spongebob Meets _____

I don't know who is deleting this each time. This was an old fad from 2004. Do a search for "When sponge" and you get 1-2 pages of this fad.

McFly Fad

Here's a new fad that started today I believe. There's been a few on the front page already. It features Marty McFly from Back to the Future using the hover-board to run away from various giant heads (or other objects). He usually has a different item in his hand. Examples: mskds.ytmnd.com/ msfcbf.ytmnd.com/ mcflymcdonalds.ytmnd.com/

Get Crunk

I just did a search for the word "crunk" and I got at least 1-2 pages worth of sites featuring the song "Get Crunk" by Lil John. These sites seem to involve either drinking or hardcore dancing...I really can't explain this well. Maplejet 19:25, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Really dude, crunk is basically heavy metal for rap. No surprise there. :P (Vance Clarend 22:06, 4 April 2006 (UTC))

Snakes On The Plane

This one been appearing a lot lately on YTMND.

I would say it is an upcoming fad. Not big enough ATM to get added, but worth remembering.(Vance Clarend 22:05, 4 April 2006 (UTC))

I get more results for Snakes on a Plane than for a few of these things on the list. How many sites does it need before it's considered a fad? I get 3 pages (87 sites) when I search for it. www.ytmnd.com/list/?search=Snakes+on+a+plane&user= Foolish Child 11:32, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Alex Trebek?

He seems to be appearing on a lot of YTMND's lately, including some with Sean Connery beside him. With his catch phrase originated from Jeopardy: "You're The Man Now Dog!..... A-HA! Caught you, with Sean Connery!" Some of the sites and fads of Alex Trebek mix and match the words to make a new sentence, like "A-HA! Sean Connery caught you!". Perhaps this is enough info to make it on the fad list? 03:56, 6 April 2006 (UTC

DYTMND IS NOT A FAD!

It's not a fad, because JoshCube is the ONLY one making them. Most of the DYTMND sites have been created by him if you www.ytmnd.com/list/?search=DYTMND run a search for DYTMND.... I suppose there are a few others that are doing this as well, but not as much as others did a PTKFGS universe. All the sites are mainly done by JoshCube, and has been started by him. IIRC, we already have a statement about JoshCube as a fad under the user fads, and I don't think we need to include this fad. It would be like stating JoshCube more than twice in the entire fad list, when we don't really need to state about him more than once. If anything, DYTMND would fall under JoshCube's user fad category. 21:39, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

This I know. I've been approached by a few people from YTMND complaining about this. If I had to make an educated guess, the person who keeps adding DYTMND to the fad list is in fact JoshCube himself. I http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:68.98.77.51&diff=prev&oldid=47712001 told him to stop adding DYTMND to the list, and after http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_YTMND_fads&diff=prev&oldid=47849622 ignoring me, I blocked his IP for 24 hours. I have in fact taken the time to investigate this supposed fad myself, as I am a user on YTMND as well (a civilized one, mind you). DYTMND is not a fad, plain and simple. Linuxbeak (drop me a line) 21:48, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
Just got done talking to the YTMND people on IRC. DYTMND is not a fad. It's a forced fad by one person who has been banned. Linuxbeak (drop me a line) 15:39, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

NINJA MUSLIM WOMAN IS NEITHER A FAD NOR A POPULAR FAD

I don't know who keeps adding this in, but it is not a fad. I have never seen this on the front page nor have I seen this become a full blown fad. Maplejet 13:22, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

Horse dick

There is a possible new fad where "horse dick" is mentioned. Examples are the front paged whatareyou.ytmnd.com/ , ibelieveyouhavemyhorsedick.ytmnd.com/ and leroyhorse.ytmnd.com/ . Is it fad status yet?

Check on this tommorow...if another horsedick site hits the top 10, we pretty much got a fad going. Maplejet 12:13, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
This is pretty much a stupid fad that should not be mentioned. All it does is use other fads in its place, then add horse dick in it. I have yet to see any YTMND sites that have this thing alone, by itself (without being in othr YTMND fads), where the fad usually originates. 18:15, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
Ok, this is pretty much a full blown fad. I've come accross a Spanish Inquisition site and Gunther site with that pharse. It's going to be a difficult fad to search for because it's being used as a surprise fad similar to the thwomp fad. Maplejet 21:15, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
How can it be a full blown fad, if it's LESS than a page? It's not even 2 pages, for gods sake.
  • www.ytmnd.com/list/?search=horse+dick 02:31, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
Considering that "horse dick" is almost never in the title for these sites, that's alot.
Horse dick is kind of like a trap. It is meant to take the user by surprise in a manner similar to the Spanish Inquisition, Hassan, and Thwomp fads. You won't be able to find it using a search...For starters, I've seen a Matrix (original), Batman, Gunther, Spanish Inquisition, Sound of Music, and Captain Planet sites featuring horse dick.Maplejet 17:07, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

can someone please post a link to the original ytmnd of the matrix horsedick

Alternate Universe List

Since there are alot of others besides PTKFGS, I think there should be a list of them and what they're about.

New Super Soaker Fad?

I'm not sure if this is officially a fad yet, but I've seen a number of Super Soaker YTMND's that have at least made it to up and coming. Although I am unsure if any of them managed to make it to top 5 rated, let alone top 15 viewed. Anyway, it seems to be another take of an old animation of an old cartoon character that sprayed white liquid on people. Kind of horrible to do to someone, IMO. 21:24, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Well, there are plenty of parodies of this. I went ahead and added it to miscallaneous. And I do believe quite a few of them made the top 15 viewed. Maplejet 12:07, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

"Can't Stop The Rock" Music

I liked this fad when Apollo 440's music was used in it, but at one point, I found it was being replaced en masse with what sounded like some kind of music from a mid-90's SNES RPG, which does NOT match the image at all. Needless to say, I was a little confused and even somewhat irate over how unsuited the music was, although it has been restored recently. Did Apollo 440 threaten YTMND with legal action, like Six Flags once did? Was this the action of hackers?

    • Hehehe...it's a long story. I think sometime few months ago, someone must have hacked into the original site and replaced the Stop the Rock song with a joke song that didn't make sense. I believe that song was called "Hulkamaniacs in Heaven" by Hulk Hogan and company. Something bizzare happened, and for an odd reason, almost every site, even sites not promising stopping the rock, had their sound file changed to the Hulk Hogan song. The original was fixed later by the user, but unfortunately, not all of them have changed back. I believe an explanation should be added regarding this incident to the Stop the Rock fad section.. 65.145.254.146 03:07, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
      • No, nobody hacked it. It started when Fooliano himself changed the song to "Hulkamaniacs in Heaven" to test something. Around the time, Max was redesigning the way sites used sound so that any sites that used the same sound would use the same file to conserve space. To avoid problems, he turned off uploading right after Fooliano finished uploading his song. The result was every duplicate of his loop was replaced with the song he used. Some 50 sites were involved and they were all sites that stole the loop directly from Fooliano's site. Finally, when Max re-enabled uploading, Fooliano changed his song back. I repeat: This is not the work of hackers. Fooliano, the site's creator, did it himself.Iggy Koopa 03:14, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Nigga or N*gg*?

One of the things I'm noticing about the Nigga fad is that a lot of users will intentionally censor themselves. Even the YTMND for Gameboy YTMND does this. Did/Does YTMND have a censor system? If so, then I imagine this is an intentional mockery. Should this information be added to the description of the Nigga fad on the article? --ThatNateGuy 02:04, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

  • Yes, YTMND in fact DOES have a sensor system. Whether or not the user decides to 'intentionally' censor the name as part of the joke is up to them. Also, it's censored as 'N*gg*', not 'N*gga'. Sometimes it's censored as 'N****r' if the user spells the name correctly. 21:08, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

So Much Beauty.

Forgive me if this has been brought up before, but shouldn't the "So Much Beauty" fad be listed in the movies section? There are about two pages of them. It is a real fad. --Farm Zombie, 10:22 May 3,2006

  • I consider it a fad by now. There are 3 different video games I've seen this made with. Super Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Pac-Man. With this in mind, I've added Windows XP to the list of misc. fads. Not to mention that at least 2 or 3 of these sites have already made it to the top 15 viewed, and/or top 5 rated. 20:58, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

I don't know...there is still more sites for Blue Ball Machine... - Artman40

Random Testing Pages

Should YTMND sites about random testing, or general testing considered a fad? When I say random testing, I mean something like this: "Testing 1 2 3". I'm not talking about sites that are about school exams kind of testing. Random website testing, as in "Testing 1 2 3". After making a search, it gave me about 3 pages worth of sites. www.ytmnd.com/list/?search=testing 19:13, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Pokemon

Lately, I've noticed that some YTMND's show real life people/actors accompanied by Pokemon in some way, whether its by cards or artwork of Pokemon. Is this a new trend to YTMND? IIRC, there was one of pokecruise.ytmnd.com/ Tom Cruise with Pokemon, hankspokemon.ytmnd.com/ Tom Hanks with Pokemon, just by searching the name 'Pokemon' gives many pages of results. I suppose Cosby's famous quote from the Simpsons may have started the fad, but still, Seems like a notable fad. 02:35, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Newcomer fad?

After the announcement of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, I'm seeing YTMND with lots of Newcomer sites, where another person replaces Snake.

  • Yes, it's now considered a fad, in my books. There's at least a few different people replacing Snake, as well as a couple of other newcomers besides Snake. However, I think the most popular one was Snake, since he was the real surprize. 04:06, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

2 things

This is Flashn00b. I got 2 things to talk about:

1. Is the Kratos thing i added really a YTMND fad?

2. Could the nomination for deletion be a possible contribution to the Wikipedia hates an article fad?

  • It's not just the fad site that's being considered for deletion. It's the YTMND info page too, that's considered for deletion! 04:44, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Spotz did not create the cat burning site. (NEDM)

I have been informed by Spotz through AIM that he did not create the cat burning ytmnd. Instead, he saw a site that had a cat burning in it and fived that site because it had Doom music.

The true story is in this ytmnd: nedmexplained.ytmnd.com

Jesse Jackson Related Sites

Should Jesse Jackson be a fad? It pops up once in a while on the front page.

Arnold

Lots of good Arnold Schwarzenegger sites have become very common at this time. Anyone agrees? Artman40

Afd

I have closed the lastest Afd, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of YTMND fads (2nd nomination). As a result, I have turned this article into a redirect. Friday (talk) 15:06, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
