The object of an encyclopedia is to include things or persons of note. I do not think that one can justify including wrestlers who are not well known and certainly not those who are in the lower divisions. Thus not including sekitori seems appropriate for this page and even Juryo seems a little dubious. Nashikawa 23:55, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I have noticed that many of the active wrestlers are not actually active in the top division so I have deleted all those I am unsure about. Furthermore I think the same applies to Juryo. Personally I am convinced this list should be limited to the top Makuuchi division only -- in keeping with the aims of an encyclopedia to include information on relevant topics and people. I have added the link to the ranking site for Japan Sumo Association which includes the Juryo division wrestlers for those who need more. Even they do not think that inclusion of the more lowly ranked wrestlers in necessary in English. Also, for those adding names to this page I think we should try keep them in alphabetical order. I added Kotooshu to this page as it seems that he is likely to stay. After beating asashoryu and probably being soon promoted to Sekiwake, it seems like he deserves a page. Not to mention that he's an up and coming European rikishi which makes him more notable. Personally I think this page should cover the most famous people -- namely past stars, past yuusho winners still competing, current sanyaku, and obviously the Yokozuna.

Objections?

Just for your Information: I put a makuuchi banzuke here which i intend to keep updated, so there is a reference which makuuchi rikishi we got. --Kükator 11:49, 14 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Kotonowaka, Kotoryu and Wakanoyama removed, as they have retired. Iod 02:10, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Juryo?

[edit]

I've been going through the list trying to eliminate the red links. It's a shame that Kaiho, Toyozakura, Jumonji etc don't appear here because it only covers makuuchi rikishi. Is it worth expanding it to juryo wrestlers as well? Or just former makuuchi? I recognise that a "one juryo basho" wonder may not be worthy of inclusion but there's a few veterans missing. I have gone for former makuuchi for now. Pawnkingthree 12:18, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
