This article is problematic

[edit]

This article is problematic, as it is not accurate to use the term 'Acts of Parliament' when referring to statutes applicable in Singapore prior to 1965. The Singapore Parliament did not exist before then. For the various bodies (and there were quite a number of different ones) that had power to legislate for Singapore prior to full independence, see 'Law of Singapore'.

Perhaps the article should be retitled along the lines of 'List of Acts and Ordinances Applicable to Singapore', which should contain links to the following separate articles:

  • List of Acts Applicable to the Straits Settlements (1826–1867).
  • List of Acts and Ordinances of the Straits Settlements Legislative Council (1867–1942).
  • List of Ordinances of the Colony of Singapore Legislative Council (1946–1958).
  • List of Ordinances of the State of Singapore Legislative Assembly (1958–1963).
  • List of Acts Applicable to the State of Singapore in the Federation of Malaysia (1963–1965).
    • List of Acts of the Federation of Malaysia Parliament.
    • List of Acts of the Legislature of the State of Singapore.
  • List of Acts of Parliament of the Singapore Parliament (1965– ).

A complete list of such acts and ordinances appears in the book Bartholomew, G.W. (Geoffrey Wilson) (1987). Sesquicentennial Chronological Tables of the Written Laws of the Republic of Singapore 1834-1984. Singapore: Malaya Law Review, Malayan Law Journal. ISBN 9971-70-053-0. {{cite book}}: Unknown parameter |coauthors= ignored (|author= suggested) (help)

Also, the full citations of acts and ordinances should be stated, e.g., "Application of English Law Act 1993 (No. 35 of 1993, now Cap. 7A, 1994 Rev. Ed.)". Jacklee 01:09, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
