Image copyright problem with Image:Olympic Logo1.jpg

The image Image:Olympic Logo1.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

The following images also have this problem:

Use of logos

I removed the non-free airline logos from the article as I believe that their use goes against the fair use rules, which mainly only allow logos to be used on the article related to the subject. Problem is the article now is a bit daft perhaps it is not required. Perhaps some type of categorisation by design may be better. MilborneOne (talk) 14:45, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

My responses to some copyright issues are outlined below
- concerning WP:NFCC#1 (No free equivalent), the logos cannot be replaced by a free version that has the same effect. There is only one Lufthansa logo.
- concerning WP:NFCC#3 (Minimal usage), each logo is unique, therefore one logo could not adequately all logos.
- concerning WP:NFCC#3 (Minimal extent of use), the logos that come from Wikimedia Commons are of varying quality. If a logo violates this principle then it should be removed (or replaced) on Commons.
- concerning WP:NFCC#8 (Significance), a visual image is essential to describe what the logo looks like, something words alone cannot do (especially when scores of airlines use the same species of bird).
- no-free use rationals are found on the pages in Wikimedia Commons of the respective logos. Kransky (talk) 23:17, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
I'm no expert on image copyrights, but all of these images only have rationales to be used on their respective companies' pages. NcSchu(Talk) 03:19, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
  • Our usage fully conforms with WP:LOGO which states, Many images of logos are used on Wikipedia and long standing consensus is that it is acceptable for Wikipedia to use logos belonging to others for encyclopedic purposes. Colonel Warden (talk) 07:49, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
That doesn't address the situation at all. Yes, the existence of such logos on Wikipedia is not a problem, but the inclusion of them on this page is an issue since there is only non-free rationale for the respective companies articles provided. These images can be deleted if rationale for their inclusion on this page is not given in due time. Also, the page is rather ugly in its current format. Can we put it into a table or something if we are able to keep the images? NcSchu(Talk) 15:16, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
