Soviet Union / Its Republics[edit]

If a person has been assassinated in Ukrainian USSR or in Byelorussian SSR during the Soviet period, do we have to add the item to the Soviet Union/Russia chapter or to the chapter of the appropriate independent state?

Great question. Italy only existed since 1861, but its list goes back to the eighth century BC. There is inconsistent handling of imperial states in lists like this one and others, with some stereotypically being given a privileged status. A good start will be to split Russia and the USSR into separate sections, because the latter has twelve successor states and comprised territories of fifteen modern states. —Michael Z. 21:09, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As per my edit summary, I have removed this entry because it does not meet our criteria of "For the purposes of this article, an assassination is defined as the deliberate, premeditated murder of a prominent figure, often for religious or political reasons." None of 'Deliberate' ,'Pre-Meditated' or 'Religious of Political reasons' are supported by the facts, we just don't know yet. JeffUK (talk) 13:28, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
