Formatting and layout[edit]

I've improvised a version of {{awards table}} at {{awards table2}} to fit the parameters needed for most of the awards. It looks like this:

Year Nominated work Category Result Notes
1981 "The Gernsback Continuum" Short story 1982 Locus/24 [citation needed]

Alternatives[edit]

From the featured list Gaylactic_Spectrum_Awards#List_of_winners:

Year Author(s) / Editor(s) / Director(s) Title Publisher / Producer Note Category Ref.

From the featured list Gaylactic_Spectrum_Award_winners_and_nominees_for_best_novel#Novel_winners_and_nominees

Discussion[edit]

Potential sources[edit]

Reliability unknown: Fantastic Fiction, LibraryThing, Novel Relfections

I think fantastic fiction is ok for non-controversial info, which is mostly what they give (release dates and ISBNs). Not the most proffesional-looking site, but think it actually is.YobMod 07:55, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

format[edit]

I left off a references / source column, as all of them come from the same source, so reviewers at featured lists candidates usually expect that (if the source is always the same page). We could add a notes column? I'm not sure if any info needs to be included in such a column though. Maybe the co-authors? Then if any additional citations are given or any interswting facts, they can go into this notes column too. I can change the awards table template to which ever is decided, rather than having to write out the syntax for each table.YobMod 07:28, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, i see the new table template. I changed it to have a notes column, and made the hugo awards work with it to show. I think the cites can therefore just go to the column titles - maybe both category and results?
Actually i only added the cite to results. This way it is clear where the info comes from, but the references section will only have the same cite used once per table (so no ugly a,b,c --> aa,bb,cc cites). D'oh, but that makes the table only useful for Gibson - so cite will have to go somewhere else, so be added in a different way. Do you have any idea how to make it a fillable field? So can add the template as "Award table2|Cite= " or somesuch? If not, we can do it using a footnote symbol.YobMod 07:41, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Quick note: Wikipedia:Manual of Style (lists of works) Skomorokh 04:32, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, but i think that people will oppose at FLC if a column for citations uses the same citation hundreds of times, when a general reference already covers the information. I would certainly oppose it in other lists, as being un-needed.YobMod 11:06, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, but the previous solution doesn't fly either. We need to alter {{awards table2}} to add a parameter so that it's clear to the reader when an entire table is being supported by the same reference. Just noticed you've suggested this above! I'll try to tinker with the template. Skomorokh 00:39, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
An alternative solution would be to put the ref at the end of the lead-in sentence of the section. So, "The Nebula awards are a blah blah blah. Gibson has been nominated for x Nebula awards and has won y times, for blah.(ref for whole table)". Skomorokh 00:52, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
