Number of bird species in Portugal[edit]

There are much more than 474 bird species in Portugal. Have a look:

I hope it was of any help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.174.37.200 (talk) 00:52, 2 September 2008 (UTC) The same mistake is still here on wikipedia. It keeps giving 474 species of birds... The author of this wikipedia is portuguese and someone with knowledge about this area? Because, I don´t know why, a brasilian with a low knowledge about portuguese climatology did updates on the wikipedia page about Portugal, fortunately only on the portuguese version... I´m wondering why this sudden interest about a foreign country, along with a shameful lack of knowledge is taking place on information pages of wikipedia. There´s some kind of juri on wikipedia to evaluate/edit these kind of childish mistakes? More surprisingly some parts of wikipedia which include very gross errors ( like on this one) are impossible to edit, even if someone presents realistic sources. The reason: «it´s against vandalism». Well the vandalism is already done and the true vandals have been opening pages about things that they don´t know and prevent the people of science and truth to edit it. At least there are more wikipedia versions that show us the truth, to show everyone the reality. And fortunately a new Atlas is about to come with much more species which hopefully will represent correctly all the recent findings. On the year 2009 there were reported more species ( new species for Portugal). Each year there are more and more findings to add. Portugal stretches to Azores and Madeira, including the fact that the continent it´s between Europe and Africa which gives a excellent number of bird species. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.174.37.202 (talk) 00:28, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

October 31, 2020 revision[edit]

This revision changes the article's primary source from Sociedade Portuguesa para o Estudo das Aves (SPEA) to iGoTerra because the former no longer posts a full list on its website. The changes are:

  • Delete species in Categories D (doubts as to wild origin) and E (introduced but not established) for consistency with most other national lists.
  • Add three families and eight species per iGoTerra.
  • Delete a family and 37 species per iGoTerra.
  • Add Category S (status to be updated) and revise occurrence of (A) and (I) tags per iGoTerra.
  • Revise a name and erroneous sequences of species per Clements.
  • Update population status per Avibase.
  • Revise references, counts, and text to reflect the above.
