Clean up

[edit]

As it stands this is a self promotion page for various companies rather than an encyclopedic list - the weblinks in particular are pure spam. I'm planning to clean up sometime soon - please leave a message here if you would rather I left it alone. Paxse 18:33, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They're not spam. I had to go hunting down those down for hours. They're references. Once I fill in the articles I remove the links. And for articles I see added that I don't believe the person is really going to come back and do a credible article, I have been removing those as well myself... Currently I'm working on the Magna Rewards because the banks refer to that as one of their joint affilations. CaribDigita 21:15, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

{reduce indent} No worries - and thanks for letting me know so quickly. Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh above. I came across List of Indian companies one day when cleaning up linkspam. Nobody except the vandals and spammers had been near it for months. So I cleaned it up and added it to my watchlist until someone came along who wanted to use it productivity (like you are doing here!). Since then I've checked out a few more of the country lists and cleaned up. I saw List of Barbadian companies and thought WOW Spammer heaven! You're doing a great (and thankless) job maintaining and expanding this list - cheers and see you 'round the 'pedia. Paxse 12:41, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ohhh I fully understand I stay vigilent myself... I'm eying that "FunBarbados" entry myself... as far as I know it is only a mere small web company. I don't think it'll ever be publically listed on the stock exchange and to my mind I don't think they really sponsor anything in Barbados to warrant a listing. I'm going to give it time but I do have it in my radar. No thank you. We do need people to go around Wikipedia to keep an eye on this stuff. I'm watching probably too many articles which is why I'm getting to things more slowly than I wished I was. CaribDigita 13:44, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List cleaned

[edit]
I have cleaned this list of non-notable companies; this includes companies with no Wikipedia article and no satisfactory third party claim to notability. This is in line with the Manual of Style guidance for lists and notability guidelines. Remember that Wikipedia is not a directory - listing all companies is not necessarily useful. Before you add a new companies please ensure they meet the relevant notability guidelines, supported by reliable sources. In general it is best if the company has a Wikipedia page (on which notability is established) before it is added.

I've re-done this; limiting ourselves to notable companies seems like a good approach. Kuru (talk) 22:47, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Organise by type?

[edit]

Other articles in this theme organise companies by their sector/type. What do people think of doing that here? --Errant Tmorton166(Talk) 09:38, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is a good idea that helps add purpose to the article; I'll take a shot at it using ICB sectors. Kuru (talk) 01:48, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
