Creation[edit]

The content of this article was split off from that of List of conflicts in the United States where it didn't belong, as it predated the decleration of the United States in 1776 and the recognition by Great Britain in 1783. There is a slight crossover between the articles regarding the battles of the American Revolutionary War as it could be reasonablly be said to fit into both articles.Lord Cornwallis (talk) 19:27, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This creates another problem, the list now contains pre-Columbian conflicts and conficts involving non-British/English places like New Netherlands but excludes British settlements in Canada and the Caribbean.--Countakeshi (talk) 08:15, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that occured to me a couple of days ago. In truth all the battles/wars that didn't take place on land that was actually English/British at the time should be pruned from the article. The problem is the creator of the original article spent a lot of time and effort into compiling the list and I'm loath to start reducing it. However that seems to be the only way to make this article actually viable, and it sister article List of conflicts in the United States probably needs similar removal of conflicts that took place in territory before it actually became part of the US. Perhaps this page could be usefully merged with the material from List of conflicts in Canada prior to the American Revolutionary War. That would require agreement from the authors of that page, as it would make sense to split the Canada page into two: this page, and a page after the foundation of British North America / Canada.
