lower capacity[edit]

the list is very restricting with the amount of grounds it contains, I propose lowering it to 15,000 to include other great grounds. I will make it so untill further discussion The C of E (talk) 08:21, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Skewed numbers[edit]

The seating capacity figures are highly skewed in this list. For example, Eden Gardens, Calcutta has a seating capacity of about 66,000, not 90,000. Similarly, Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi has a seating capacity of about 60,000, as opposed to 40,000 mentioned in the list. Aditya Gautam (talk) 10:45, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, have tried making some of them consistent, and also removing grounds where there is no evidence that they have anywhere near the stated capacity Spike 'em (talk) 11:19, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Even just reading through Wikipedia itself, there are wildly different numbers for many of the Indian stadia (I'm starting at the top) Any reliable sources to use, that aren't just repeating what is on wiki? Spike 'em (talk) 17:45, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rationale for "former stadia"[edit]

What is the rationale for moving a stadium to the "former" list? I am thinking of ANZ Stadium in particular, which was last used less than 2 years ago. Has there been an announcement that it will never be used again? AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 00:06, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The capacity of the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium[edit]

This should be discussed. There are two capacity figures circulating around for the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium: 49,000 and 65,000. This source, which is one of the sources claiming it's 49,000, seems reliable: https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/new-zealand-in-india/india-vs-new-zealand-raipur-gears-up-to-be-indias-50th-odi-venue/articleshow/97160125.cms. It is the fourth-largest newspaper in India by circulation and the best-selling English-language daily in the world.

A while ago, there was a comparable discussion about another cricket stadium. Two capacity figures were circulating around. They did a test to figure out which one is more reliable. Every row filled with seats around a cricket pitch has ~1200 seats. If a cricket stadium has 40 rows filled with seats, it has around 1200×40=48,000 seats.

With this calculation, you can't figure out if it has 50,000 or 46,000 seats ofcourse. But you can figure out if it has 20,000, 40,000 or 60,000 seats for example. If you don't believe me, just do this test with several comparable cricket stadiums and you'll see that this test will always result in a capacity that is close to the official figure. This way, you can see that the 49,000-capacity is much more likely than the 65,000-capacity figure, because the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium has around 40 rows with seats. 80.57.47.217 (talk) 09:03, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
