22 Aug 2014 Quake details..[edit]

I'm not sure if this quake at a revised 3.8 requires a separate page for all the details or if the current short notes are sufficient. Considering : No damage(minor or otherwise), No Injuries or deaths. Not like the Previous Orkney quake.. Gremlinsa (talk) 10:57, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

At this stage my opinion would be not. A full article requires sufficient information to write about backed by coverage in reliable sources and volunteers willing to do the editing. Helen Online 11:25, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Richter scale[edit]

In the "Earthquake data" section, the closing statement reads "The magnitude where given is measured using the Richter scale ( $M_{L}$ ) unless stated otherwise."

Is this correct? I am not confident of my facts such that I felt like making the edit myself so I thought I'd rather open a discussion and see if anyone else might be better informed.

As far as I understand, most seismological authorities don't use the Richter scale anymore. The more popular scale these days would be the Moment magnitude scale. Certainly, some of the more recent earthquakes listed in this section do appear to reference the magnitude as listed by the USGS, which uses the Moment magnitude scale.
