Sortname etc[edit]

I have reverted[1] two edits[2] by User:SleepCovo which:

  1. Removed {{Party shortname}} from the list
  2. added redundant rowspan=1 markup

The edit summary given was "fixing list which was inaccurate", without identifying what was considered to be inaccurate.

SleepCovo, please can you explain a) why you think that the list was improved by the 2 changes listed above, and b) what you consider to be "inaccurate" about the version to which I reverted? Thanks.

Per WP:BRD, please explain and discuss rather than simply repeating the edit. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 22:30, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Note that after posting that comment, I made a series of further edits to this list:
  • [3] use the {{sortname}} to sort members by surname
    • [4] minor edit to fix my typo
  • [5] move postnomials (OBE/DBE/CH/OM etc) to footnotes to reduce visual clutter
  • [6] format footnotes in narower columns
  • [7] fix a few errors of constituencies being listed incorrectly (probably errors introduced by me)

Issues with this list[edit]

  • Currently, this list does not include female members of the Delegation which represented the UK from 1973-79, although some people on that list do appear on this one as they continued to serve after '79. I will seek to add the ones that are missing shortly.
  • There seems to be an excess of information in the footnotes which, whilst notable/interesting isn't really needed in a list of MEPs. I propose only mentioning peerages that were held or received during their tenure in Brussels. Similarly, I would contend only those whose time as MPs oveerlapped with their service as MEPs should have their Westminster seats mentioned here, plus those who resigned from Brussels on election to Westminster. Finally, I think details of who they are related to should only appear here if the other person was also an MEP at some point. The removed information will of course still be found in the individual articles, which is the appropriate place for it.
  • I propose to remove the column 'Constituent country' as as this duplicates information in the 'Constituency' column. Also, it is not correct to refer to Gibraltar as a constituent country of the United Kingdom.
