Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on March 20, 2009.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that in the last 50 years, 17 championships have been retired by current professional wrestling company World Wrestling Entertainment?

WWF Women's Tag Team Championship[edit]

Some more research is needed on this. It lists the creation as 1970 with the initial champions being Velvet McIntyre and Princess Victoria. Considering that Velvet McIntyre was born in 1962 and Princess Victoria didn't even debut until 1980 this can't be correct. I don't think Princess Victoria traveled back in time to 1970 to capture a title with an 8 year old Velvet McIntyre.

World Championship Heavyweight Title.[edit]

I believe the article is mistaken, the wcw heavyweight title was not retired it was unified with the wwe championship. Sid 4x (talk) 22:34, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In most cases, it's the same thing. (retired when unified)

Merge proposal[edit]

The List of current champions in World Wrestling Entertainment will likely be delisted as a Featured List, with the recomendation that it be merged with this page. The current champions page was pretty much just created so that it could be the main article for a Featured Topic on WWE championships.

I think it would be quite useful to merge the two pages. I don't think a lot of changes would be needed. The list portion of the current champions list could simply be copied here and given its own section. Then, the lead would need to be adjusted, and the page moved to "List of World Wrestling Entertainment championships". -- Scorpion0422 20:36, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, List of World Wrestling Entertainment championships is a great way to show all the championships that were/is defended during the company's history as a wrestling promotion. I say, let's merge.--Mikeymike2001 (talk) 22:05, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I also agree if its done right it could easily be a Featured List in a matter of days.--SteamIron 03:05, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's been a while since I've been involved with FLC, so I'm unsure what the current procedure is, but I don't think another FLC would be needed. The changes can just be made here, which is already a FL. -- Scorpion0422 22:57, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think an article would be better than a list. Just my opinion. It reviews the topic much better. Like I've shown already here.--WillC 07:13, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Um, that's not an article. It's just a list, followed by a bunch of sections with redirects. -- Scorpion0422 22:53, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That is the format layout, I have yet to work on it. Want to see what it would be more like look at TNA Bound for Glory.--WillC 05:40, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disagree - if you merge both, this will be a long ass article/list (whatever you want to call it). Look at all this history that was written in prose about the titles and if you want to merge that with the current champions list (which has no prose about the histories and for consistency it would need it) then it will clutter everything IMO. Unless, there is a more precise way of putting these two together, I disagree for now. --Truco 503 18:07, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disagree I think the idea is stupid. One article is about the FORMER Championships, the other article is about the CURRENT Champions! It makes no sense! Kepp it like it is!

--Hixteilchen (talk) 02:01, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with this sentiment. These articles cover two distinctly different topics, one detailing current information, one containing historical data. Also, this article discusses the championship categories, while the "Current Champions" article covers the individuals holding the various extant championships. HappyJake (talk) 17:20, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - A combined list would be too long. Splitting on the current/former border is a logical way to keep the articles/lists at a manageable length. It also helps avoid issues where the former championships are overshadowed, thereby avoiding WP:RECENTISM concerns. oknazevad (talk) 03:20, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WCW & ECW World titles[edit]

By the time they were retired by the WWE, these two titles, if ever, did not have the word "Heavyweight" in their on screen graphic or ring name. Might as well then call the European title a WWF title still. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.24.221.54 (talk) 06:58, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

FCW Championships[edit]

How come FCW titles aren't in the list? It was WWE's developmental territory, so wasn't part of WWE? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.214.94.65 (talk) 07:50, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unlike NXT, which is outright owned by WWE, FCW was separately owned and only affiliated with WWE, much like Smokey Mountain, OVW and Deep South had been before. WWE bought out the F W owners when they changed it to NXT, making it fully part of WWE, albeit a separate operating unit. oknazevad (talk) 15:40, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Internet Championship?[edit]

So I know what you're thinking "Bro, this wasn't a real championship" and you'd be right, however, neither was the Million Dollar Championship and it's listed. Both were unsanctioned "gimmick" championships. While it's true the Million Dollar title is far more noteworthy, the Internet Championship was defended on at least one house show and was included in the WWE 2K games with the other WWE Titles. Personally, I'm not really sure if that justifies an inclusion, however, it was defended in a WWE ring and there's a precedent for including gimmick titles so we need to be consistent. I'm curious about what everyone else thinks. 174.125.60.159 (talk) 04:17, 8 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
