Name/move

Shouldn't this be List of Governors of Newfoundland and Labrador, given the timeframe and varying titles? L-G is Canada/provincehood-specific and is the shortest/fewest part of the list.Skookum1 (talk) 01:16, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It might be necessary, under the circumstances, to split this list so that pre-1949 governors of colonial Newfoundland are represented on a separate list from post-1949 LGs of Newfoundland-as-a-Canadian-province. I submit that as a possibility, but not a requirement :-) Bearcat (talk) 01:47, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting question. I believe that I support this move suggestion (with a redirect from here, obviously). It is a list of governors of Newfoundland and Labrador; just that the most recent are lieutenant governors but still governors. DoubleBlue (Talk) 02:18, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm rather concerned about the consistency of titles among related articles — there really does need to be a predictable, consistent, same-across-the-board title format of some kind, so that it's immediately apparent to our readers where any list of provincial (lieutenant-)governors is located. Obviously there could be a redirect at the expected title but I do understand what you're saying. Perhaps the best solution is to have an article at List of Lieutenant Governors of Newfoundland and Labrador on the post-1949 Lt.Govs with a link to a more general article on all the governors of Newfoundland. Speaking of which, would it be more accurate to have that article at List of Governors of Newfoundland? I believe the name change is rather recent and pre-Confederation, Labrador was a kind of dependency; though my knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador history is surprisingly weak. It's the same issue we have with Quebec, PEI, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. I'm not convinced article splitting is the solution, and maintaining consistency among the 10 provinces leads me to think that the status quo is the best solution. A clear explanation in the lead paragraph might be all that is required. However, if that's not satisfactory, any change(s) we do make should be across the board. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 21:01, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
