Since there were comparatively few counties named after Texas governors, it seemed like a strange category on the table of governors, and therefore I removed that column from the table. I added a link to List of Texas county name etymologies in the "See also" section. — Bellhalla 14:20, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

I took out the column on Number of executions because there was no information in the table. The column only listed lots and on G. W. Bush's name listed more than anyone. The governor of Texas has very limited powers in regards to executions in any account. 15:11, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

Why does this list exclude any references to the Mexican governors of Texas? It seems wrong to me to ignore this chapter of gubernatorial history. -feripe

Acting Governors

Through various edits, the Acting Governor section seems to have been removed. It looks like someone tried to format it and ended up commenting it out, and then another editor removed the commented section. I have restored this section and information because these "Acting Governors" are considered to have actually served as governor. If there are compelling reasons as to why the section was removed, I will listen. — Bellhalla 23:23, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Confusion during Civil War

I am a bit perplexed by the listing of Fletcher Stockdale who served for Pendleton Murrah when Gov. Murrah fled to Mexico after serving in the Confederate Army. This inconsistency in dates and persons must be resolved.

Ann Richards Image

I wish to add proper fair use rationale for the Ann Richards Image that was previously removed from this Wikipedia page; however, I am unsure of what tags, etc. should go on the image page. Could someone help? Thanks, Collegebookworm (talk) 02:28, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

List of Governors of Texas → Governor of Texas — Makes more sense. Just because it includes lists doesn't mean it has to have "list" in the title. Heck, the former Governor of Texas article's content has even been merged to and it now redirects to here. --Cybercobra (talk) 02:50, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Oppose. Inclusion of information about the office means that that information should be punted back to a new Governor of Texas article detailing the American office, its powers, and its history. This page should be cleaned up and include the Governors of Mexican Texas, Coahuila y Texas, and Confederate Texas as additional sections along with the American office. For an example of what I'm talking about, cf. Governor of Kentucky v. List of Governors of Kentucky. Texas begins with T and therefore is pretty far down the alphabet; I've been bringing governor lists up to featured standards, but I generally move alphabetically. That said, when featured, it is very unlikely to include the pre-statehood governors, as those are better handled on another page. (Confederate, yes; Republic, Mexican, etc., no) This is the system we've used thus far. --Golbez (talk) 16:30, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I just saw that the colonial governors tend to get a "List of colonial governors of..." page instead of being included on the main page. That's fine. Just pointing out that the lists are in fact different from the main pages in purpose and content. -LlywelynII (talk) 16:40, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Oh, absolutely. A main article should have information on the office, its powers, eligibility, its history, etc... a list article should concern itself with, well, the list: How you get on it, why the list might change (succession), etc. Eligibility and powers, not so much. History useful, like with the Utah list, because I find it important to know who was chief executive of a particular area at a particular time; for example, most of Nevada was part of Utah Territory between 18xx and 18yy, and the article information reflects that, as will Nevada's. Definitely not powers, though, that has no real place in the list article except the basic introduction that exists. However, thanks mainly to me (</horntoot>), the list articles are generally vastly superior to the main articles, in the cases where main articles even exist, so it makes sense to move the list to the main article in the absence thereof, until such time as a main article is created with the information on the office. --Golbez (talk) 18:03, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Although I agree that the Kentucky situation is better (although personally I think the lede to the list article is too long for a list), that's not where we're currently at with Texas and until such time as we have two articles I think the single article we have should reside at Governor of Texas. That does not stop a subsequent split if someone later does the work to make this like the Kentucky situation. Dpmuk (talk) 19:26, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Party affiliations

Almost all the pre-Civil War governors are listed on their own pages and on the pages for the elections as being independents, but are listed here as Democrats. Which is correct? --Jfruh (talk) 00:03, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Maybe it´s just my eyes, but the infobox of every pre-civil war governor that is listed as democrat over here says democratic as party affiliation, too. And the mention as independent candidats in the gubernatorial elections, though simply listing all candidats as independents, are all done by a single editor. During the earlier elections apparently the parties were either not recorded or they ran as independents but later affiliated with the democrats. ...GELongstreet (talk) 00:36, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
