It was stated here that Sayed Abdelrahman El Mahdi was a cheif Minister in 1952. I would like to correct this information. The covenant for self-governance for the Sudan was signed in 12th Feb. 1953, after the Egyptian revolution. Before that, there was an “Executive Council” . This executive council was headed by the British Governor General, it consisted of at least 12 members: three Sudanese Ministers and the Legislative Assembly’s head, plus four British Officials, plus the commerce mandatory and the irrigation mandatory, and three other members appointed by the British Governor Sayed Abdelrahman Al Mahdi never held any post in that government.

True, some of his political supporters of the Umma party were Ministers in the executive council, e.g Sayed Ibrahim Ahmed, Sayed Abdelrahman Ali Taha and Sayed Abdalla Khalil.

The first elected Sudanese government was formed after the 1953 elections (held in November and December), the First Parliament’s session was held in January 1954, it formed the Government of Sayed Ismael el Azhary, who was the first Sudanese Prime Minister.

Please correct that.
