Order[edit]

It might be wise to make a "List of hybrid vehicles by MPG" as well.

  • I think this is how it works: You can buy a 2008 car in 2007, so 2008 would be the model year (what the dealership calls it), but it would actually have been manufactured in 2007 (production year). — Reinyday, 00:18, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

First Hybrid[edit]

On this page, it is claimed that Ferdinand Porsche built the first hybrid car. On the AL_(automobile) page, it is claimed that the AL was the first recorded hybrid. They cannot both be first. --Joel.davies 17:44, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would appear that the AL article is incorrect, having cited inaccurate reference materials. Multiple sources show that there were even some earlier examples of hybrid cars prior to Porsches... Will have to fix that, thanks for bringing that up. --D0li0 09:49, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]


I would like to add that I believe Porsche went on to design another small 2 seater more modern hybrid which was under the Porsche name, and I believe Ralph Lauren owns one in his colllection.... come to think of it, it may have been powered by hydrogen too. Perhaps someone will know or can research this. I saw it at Ralph Lauren Car exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Two years in a row[edit]

If an hybrid automobile is produced 2 or more years in a row is it to be listed in each year of its production in the main article? e.g. should the Toyota Prius be mentioned in each year since it started? Custodiet ipsos custodes talk 18:55, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

non production models?[edit]

The Toyota Volta was never produced, but was a concept hybrid. No doubt there are others, and will be many more. Should there be section for not-produced hybrid concepts here? --Nemo 05:23, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Table[edit]

I prefer a table, so the user can order it following his/her criteria (i.e. country, data of production and so on).

If one is interested in a hybrid from a practical point of view rather than as an academic exercise this list is of little use. Pickup trucks?[edit]

Where are the pickup trucks? According to the Hybrid vehicles page "Advances in technology and lowered battery cost and higher capacity etc. developed in the hybrid car industry are already filtering into truck use as Toyota, Ford, GM and others introduce hybrid pickups and SUVs." botanybob (talk) 17:43, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal[edit]

Mess of defunct lists[edit]

Today (May 2019) there exist five lists in English language wikipedia that largely overlap and all of which are far from a complete, updated state:

List of hybrid vehicles (hybrid electric vehicles equipped with both combustion engines and electric drivetrains)

List of modern production plug-in electric vehicles (with pure battery vehicles, but also plug-ins, also some motorcycles and small trucks)

List of production battery electric vehicles (mainly a list with few notes on each car, also some non-car entries like motorcyles and light trucks, only purely electric vehicles)

List of production battery electric vehicles (table)

List of electric cars currently available (table with some details of cars, but lower number of entries)

List of modern production plug-in electric vehicles available in the United States (only cars, plug-in hybrids and purely electric cars)

There is also the List of electric scooters (German Wikipedia).

Some of these lists miss small size electric vehicles like the Renault Twizy. It may be easy to set ups such lists at some point in time by copying from other assembled data, but it is more difficult to keep them updated. For comparison: There is nothing like a “list of fossil fuel cars” for all conventional cars combined.

I would suggest to freeze most of all of the lists, unless someone would like to merge them into one list each for plug-in hybrids and pure electric cars. And even such list could be frozen as electric cars become standard. Meerwind7 (talk) 07:59, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Termination of updates and renaming of list[edit]

Electric and hybrid cars are becoming more comonpace. When at some time most types of car will have a electric or hybrid variant, it is not meaningful and imossible to keep these lists updates. I suggest to terminate new entries for any new models that enter(ed) the market after 2018, and rename it correspondingly. The list would thus grudually evolve into a historic document of early actvities in the car industrie in the first two decades of this millennium. This would not preclude some notes about highly significant new market entries or best-selling cars of that type. But certainly, the expectation of a "complete" list of all electric or hybrid cars is inachievable. Meerwind7 (talk) 07:07, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
