List of attractions in Australia[edit]

Redundantly, ALL of the attractions in New South Wales were in a list headed "New South Wales" but were of the format

New South Wales[edit]

Worlds largest Widget, Town, New South Wales, Australia

I have removed the redundant "New South Wales, Australia"

World's largest beach??[edit]

Why is India's World Largest Beach in this list? It's not a roadside attraction nor man-made. Kitty 23:27, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Michigan[edit]

Largest scoop. Not really, but I'm not going to remove it. Pustelnik (talk) 19:02, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Clean up[edit]

This list should be capitalized according to standard English rules and Wikipedia guidelines. Only the start of a sentence or a proper noun should be capitalized, not everything. Also, why not link the proper name of an item instead of hiding it in a piped link? For example, current entry:

Could be reformulated so it is clearer:

  • World's largest cowboy hat and boots: Hat 'n' Boots, Seattle, Washington, USA.

Any objections? Michael Z. 2008-10-08 15:52 z

Dubai[edit]

Yeah, that city's turning into a "roadside attraction" (for airplane travelers and cruises, mind you), albeit a rather posh one. 204.52.215.107 (talk) 07:02, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This article is in serious need of attention[edit]

I quote (prior to my edits):

  1. World's Largest Sundial, Singleton
  2. World's Largest Sundial, Carefree, Arizona, USA
  3. World's Largest Sundial, Little Rock, Arkansas, USA

(Note: sv:Pajala, Sweden: Pajala har även världens största solur på 38,33 m i diameter stående mitt i centrum. meaning Pajala also has the worlds largest sundial at 38.33 meter right in the centre) That's just one of many issues. I tagged it. --Gerrit CUTEDH 20:39, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Like the World's Largest Lobster, Shediac, New Brunswick and the World's Largest Lobster, Kingston (SE), South Australia. On second thought, let them work it out between themselves. MartinSFSA (talk) 11:03, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think the original source is part of the problem - from what I can tell it repeats items there. The hassle being "World's Largest" - the term "Big Things" doesn't care if it is the biggest, but clearly there can only be one world's largest thing. :) - Bilby (talk) 11:15, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Mind you, the Shediac lobster is 11m x 5m x 5m, while the Kingston one is 17m x 14m x 15m (approx), so it is fairly clear as to who wins. - Bilby (talk) 11:20, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sucked in Shediac, you lose again, and the hot hail from Flash Gordon falls upon your spurious and bizarre claims. "Eh, come to Shediac and see the world's second largest lobster"... All of which screams out that I'm probably not the one to change the various entries.MartinSFSA (talk) 11:02, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shediac is entitled to the claim. The Pacific or Spiny "lobster" (which is what I assume has been depicted in Australia) is not a real lobster at all: see the Wikipedia entry on lobsters http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lobster Tim the Lobster Eater in Eastern Canada — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.73.125.247 (talk) 20:48, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All 3 are incorrect. The largest sundial is at Jaipur, India [1] which is 27 meters high. The current claimaint in the article at Singleton is only 8 meters high [2] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sandyiit (talkcontribs) 23:20, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Contradiction Tag and List format.[edit]

A contradiction tag was placed in this article in February of 2009 with no explanation. Of course after reading the article, no explanation is needed. While I understand the concept that many people can claim a thing which does not necessarily make it so, there is no reference to this concept, save for what I put in today. This article seems to be nothing more than a list of contradictory largest attractions and does not meet Wiki's standard as an article. Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:List_guideline#List_content for more information. Kjnelan (talk) 15:40, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Texas[edit]

Worlds Largest Egg[edit]

  • World's Largest Egg Mentone, Indiana USA
  • World's Largest Egg, Winlock, Washington, USA

Which one is correct? Please provided references.. --Sandyiit (talk) 23:22, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Canada Goose[edit]

Maybe the large Wawa goose of Ontario can be included somewhere? SignedJohnsonL623 (talk) 23:49, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Measurements necessary[edit]

So we can cut all the garbage, we may need to include the measurements for these things; last thing we need is another argument based on questuionable claims. Most attractions provide measurements somehow. --Johannsenn Adder (commenting as 114.73.42.205 (talk) because I'm too damn lazy to sign in) 12:25, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Largest Trout[edit]

  • World's Largest Trout, Gore (New Zealand)

Removed "World's Largest Booty" in Ireland pending confirmation[edit]

"World's Largest Booty"? I was skeptical, because of the slang meaning for "booty" (woman's bottom) and because I couldn't imagine what else the 'largest booty' might be. A web search led only to photos of women. I also tried searching for treasure trove, treasure chest, and so on, with no results for Ireland. I found the edit that added this item was made on 21 Nov 2010, by someone with only 1 other contribution in their history. I feel very strongly that this item is suspicious (vandalism / trolling), and have removed it pending confirmation that it actually exists. Country Wife (talk) 01:04, 5 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Complete Overhaul[edit]

As Noted on this page several times, I will step up and completely Overhaul this page in the coming weeks as I have a MUCH better idea than what it is done. If you have any questions or concerns, please note it on this page below. I will be doing it in steps as it will be quite a feat.Hogie75 14:20, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

While you're about it, I'd beg for more and better sources. Most of these appear to be unverified, and the those that cite sources cite primary sources or (the captions of) Flickr photographs. Cnilep (talk) 23:52, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Its true, I am just taking what was there and putting it in a better format, I did not go through each and every article however did try to find something in the article they are linked to, if there are some that are not relevant, please feel free to delete them or move them to the proper article if necessary. It was bothering me the way it was formatted. I will continue the article shortly.Hogie75 00:03, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Moving/Renaming Article[edit]

As mentioned before, I believe this article should be changed to List of notable roadside attractions as it includes tallest, longest and also 2nd largest so this title better describes this article. I will move it in a few days unless there are major objections below.Hogie75 15:56, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

Move discussion in progress[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:List of world's largest passenger ships which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 09:45, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A list then a list[edit]

Sourcing[edit]

I note that this article has been taged with needing sources for 8 years or more. Rather then tagging each item with a CN tag I will start to delete unsourced content over the next week or so starting at the weekend.Slatersteven (talk) 17:08, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Flicker[edit]

Not sure that flicker pictures are RS.Slatersteven (talk) 08:56, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Missouri World’s Largest - please reinstate the edits. Thanks[edit]

SlaterSteven,

I am new to Wikipedia edits, so I don’t understand your comments.

I see you undid / deleted my Missouri edits from earlier this week and do not understand.

I think you types “this is not rs”. Could you share what that means?

Maxie the goose and the pecan and most of the others I listed are already recognized elsewhere in Wikipedia as worlds largest. Maybe a couple like the toilet paper need another source.

MissouriLife Magazine is credible and shares this source which I referenced: https://missourilife.com/missouris-largest-things/

This other site references otherWorld’s Largest which I have heard elsewhere, too: https://bbim.org/blog/2018/10/20/missouri-worlds-largest

Many other World’s Largest on this page have no reference, yet I provided two and Wikipedia itself is a third reference for most of these.

How to reinstate the edits I made by thumb while riding home from Branson the other whole my wife drove us back from a fun and successful fishing trip?

Thanks, Mike VVFamEdits (talk) 02:32, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

blogs are not RS, so cannot be used. Also many of the Missouri ones are not in fact sole claims. There is (for example) at least one other claim for the worlds largest Pecan nut. As such I would say that local sources should not also be RS for these claims.Slatersteven (talk) 09:11, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What is a RS??? VVFamEdits (talk) 16:16, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

So maxie the goose gets reinstated because wiki notes it? VVFamEdits (talk) 16:17, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry wp:rs.Slatersteven (talk) 16:18, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Might you be planning to delete the many other items on this page that have no confirmed citation or those that failed or otherwise do not have confirmed support of being worlds largest (that prairie chicken in Minnesota’a gooottttttaaaa be the biggest but the reference does not confirm it. So why the harsher standard for Missouri’s claims to world’s largest fame? VVFamEdits (talk) 16:26, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Magazines of the year are not a Reliable sources?????

“Aside from a sizable number of readers, Missouri Life has received many awards from state and international organization, including the IRMA Magazine of the Year Award in 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017.“

??? VVFamEdits (talk) 16:28, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you look at the page history you will, see I have removed a ton of unsourced claims.Slatersteven (talk) 16:29, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
now if you want to reinstate maxie the goose you can, it seems to be sourced. But I would suggest this is what we do, you make a case for one item then we see if it passes muster.Slatersteven (talk) 16:32, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

So what other pecan claims to be biggest? Multiple places share that Missouri’s is bigger than Texas and takes World’s Biggest Claim

This is just one: https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/worlds-largest-pecan VVFamEdits (talk) 17:08, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

And for Alton Robert Wadlow is the Guinness World Record tallest man And Alton has a statue of him Is that worthy largest statue of worlds largest man? Yes or yes? VVFamEdits (talk) 17:09, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

One at a time, please.
The pecan is a case to point , which one is the WORLDS largest? So we go with independent sources, not that that might be seen as promotional.
As to the statue of Robert Wadlow, what is it the worlds tallest statue? or just the worlds tallest statue of the worlds tallest man?Slatersteven (talk) 17:14, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Just a quick note, RE: "let’s let Wikipedia be its own proof shall we?" Wikipedia is not a reliable source. Greyjoy talk 05:48, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Slatersteven, I see you worked on this a bit too--I just pruned it according to regular Wikipedia standards--by leaving those with Wikipedia articles. If we are ever going to include things without articles, they will need serious reliable secondary sourcing--not the usual spammy website or silly local newspaper article. Drmies (talk) 01:10, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

NO issue with that, I was just being a bit lenient to give people more of a chance. Slatersteven (talk) 11:31, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
