Last Japanese aviator to attack Pearl Harbor

This popped up on my phone's news feed today. Masamitsu Yoshioka, a Japanese service member that attacked Pearl Harbor. He was a navigator on a B5N. Since he wasn't a pilot, not sure how to present him other than the last aviator to attack Pearl Harbor. https://japan-forward.com/interview-masamitsu-yoshioka-105-one-of-the-chosen-few-at-pearl-harbor/ Feickus (talk) 13:54, 2 June 2023 (UTC)

I might phrase it simply as the "last surviving Japanese veteran of the attack on Pearl Harbor", or "Last surviving Japanese airman who attacked Pearl Harbor". I'd also move Kaname Harada (the last surviving combat pilot) into a footnote. pburka (talk) 14:24, 2 June 2023 (UTC)

Last original SAS member

I'm going to remove Mike Sadler (last surviving original member of the Special Air Service). Even though the Times called him "The last survivor of the original SAS"[1], other papers have recently reported on the death of Alec Borrie, described as "one of the last surviving original SAS members."[2] Sadler couldn't have been the last original member in 2018 if Borrie was still living. pburka (talk) 16:24, 17 June 2023 (UTC)

Last surviving (formal) Commander-in-Chief and head of state of a war party

This is obviously Simeon II. Reliable sources for all war parties leaders of WW2, showing all of them have died since (Michael of Romania being the other survivor until 2017) are not hard to be found (though, it will take some time to gather them). Sure, it is somehow questionable if it makes him a veteran. GregSpeare (talk) 22:15, 24 June 2023 (UTC)

Death of the last Monument man

Please stop removing his entry without discussion. He was the last surviving Monument Man. pburka (talk) 02:30, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
Than add the death date. Death Editor 2 (talk) 02:42, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
Please remember that Wikipedia is a collaborative effort by volunteers. The entry for Richard M. Barancik was still correct (but incomplete), and attempting to coerce other editors by deleting or threatening to delete content isn't conducive to collaboration, and is a good way to get yourself blocked. pburka (talk) 16:16, 19 July 2023 (UTC)

Applicable date for figure of 131 veterans dying a day

I've added the date that this figure applies to. The article cited for the statement is dated September, 2023. So that is the date that I used.

I felt the figure needed context, given how variable said figure can be. The original statement had no date, giving the implication that it was current and up to date. While the figure is up to date at the time of thos update, implications like this shouldn't be included in arricles.

To explain my reasoning more in depth: The number of veterans dying each day, on average, is going to vary drastically over time. As more veterans die, this figure will go up over time as veterans get older and die off at a more rapid pace until eventually reaching a plateau where there are far fewer veterans left alive, and hence fewer that will die each day. So, the figure will plateau, if it hasn't already, and fall gradually, until there's nonone left and it hits zero. VoidHalo (talk) 12:54, 11 October 2023 (UTC)

Harry Moyer (103) and Mel McMullen (98) are still alive so shall we remove the flying tiger on this list? Eoin DAMM (talk) 12:42, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

Certainly seems like the reference should be removed. Bkatcher (talk) 14:54, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
According to the official rosters, neither Moyer or McMullen were ever part of the Flying Tiger. I believe this goes back to there were part of the unit that descended from the AVG but were not officially Flying Tigers. https://flyingtigersavg.com/complete-roster-of-the-avg/ Feickus (talk) 19:22, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

107 year old WWII Vet inclusion request

My father-in-law, William Monfort just celebrated his 107th birthday. Here's the link to one of his local news interviews: https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/region-pinellas/tampa-bay-area-wwii-veteran-celebrates-107th-birthday Donalexander2 (talk) 02:37, 23 December 2023 (UTC)

Congratulations. Is he the last surviving member of a notable group of veterans? pburka (talk) 05:36, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
Impossible to say because of privacy policies, but not many live to that age. He did survive a kamikaze attack, and he was the first on his ship to hear the Japanese were attacking Pearl Harbor since he was the radio operator.

surviving WWII vets

I'm afraid he does not meet the notability requirements for this article. There are still thousands of living veterans, and the ones we include here are the last survivors of a specific force, battle, operation, etc. But please thank him for his service. Bkatcher (talk) 13:55, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
