Merge?[edit]

  • I do not think the merge of these two pages has any merit nor would it be beneficial to the user. As a defense manufacturer I experience the international structure of our industry. No longer does a national company only utilize same nation’s manufacturing resources as contractors or sub-contractors. The alpha-structure utilized on the current page assists me on a regular basis. It allows me to quickly find a company by name; I rarely know or even care where the company originates as most large manufactures have North American Divisions. By grouping the arms makers by country this information on the site will also misrepresent the arms manufacturer. As a simple example Baretta the oldest arms maker in the world is based in Italy where they make many fine weapons. When Baretta secured the massive contact for the Joint Service Small Arms Program with the 92SB - US Military designation M9, Baretta manufactures the M9 as well as many other Baretta weapons at their plant in Maryland. Having this as a small example how would you group the manufactures by country? Leave the page as is! — Preceding unsigned comment added by DCDavidson (talkcontribs) 22:26, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Against - Small arms and larger weaponries should be divided and organized/categorized for comprehension. Fukoku Kyohei (talk) 22:29, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Inline external links[edit]

There are many inline external links in the list. IMHO this list page should follow WP:WTAF and contain only existing articles. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:58, 7 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If there is no objection by the end of November 2021, I will remove list entries that do not link to articles here, per WP:WTAF. -- Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:51, 18 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Criteria for inclusion?[edit]

Hi! The title says "major", but the list does not explain what criteria go into determining this. I'd appreciate some clarity on this. A. C. SantacruzPlease ping me! 10:30, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please participate[edit]

Abdur Rahman Tushar and Mtkhan1989 as you are recent major contributors to this article please respond to the issues raised in the above discussions. We really need to your ideas about the development and improvement of this article. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 11:18, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it would be helpful if either, or both, of you could respond to this request for discussion. Both of you have added a significant amount of content, much of which was not sourced. I noted one of you added several external links (and primary sources at that) as inline refs, which should be avoided. They've since been removed by someone, but the article is now completely unsourced and relies solely on links to parent articles. Please see WP:RS for the types of sources we need, and WP:CITE for how to add them properly. Thanks - wolf 11:43, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just did some sifting through news sources and am having trouble finding stuff that qualifies certain corporations as "major". As far as "major" and "arms industry" go in the media, it seems that there is more emphasis on how much a given country trades in arms, and less so which corporations within it are manufacturing them. This is a crufty list and without a yardstick for inclusion it might be worth deleting it. -Indy beetle (talk) 00:33, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There's also List of firearm brands and List of modern armament manufacturers. We probably only need one of them. Loafiewa (talk) 00:40, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
List of modern armament manufacturers is way easier to source and basically makes this redundant. -Indy beetle (talk) 01:13, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. Despite being pinged here and having a specific invite posted to their talk page as well, Abdur Rahman Tushar hasn't responded on either page, but have continued to make more edits to this article. Abdur, I will again ask that you respond to this discussion. - wolf 02:34, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This list is about major arm's industry so don't add government Agency's or small arm's companies Abdur Rahman Tushar (talk) 08:43, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
First clarify that what exactly mean of "major arms industry"? whether it should be included with small/medium firearms industry or not?Mtkhan1989 (talk) 12:04, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
”Major” as an adjective just means “significant”, implying this list is about large “arms/armament” companies. There is no such thing as “major arms” that stands opposite of “small arms”, which are a defined category. I also don’t see what logically prevents a small arms manufacturer from being a significant supplier. -Indy beetle (talk) 18:32, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sir, as per my opinion, the title should be renamed as "List of major defense industry corporations by country", reason is word "defense" itself is a major and/or “significant” category which is included every types of defense industries like firearms, ammunitions, artillery, military aircrafts, helicopters, ships and vehicles, cyber securities, defense software, military gadgets, etc. If anyone suggesting here?Mtkhan1989 (talk) 09:52, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As I pointed out above, it's hard to find an RS definition for what counts as a major/minor defense company. -Indy beetle (talk) 23:07, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
