Original research

[edit]

This entire article appears to be made up entirely of original research and needs some serious cleaning out. I will attempt to add wikilinks to everything that has an article and then delete whatever doesn't. SQGibbon (talk) 05:54, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done, though the article is still pretty sad. SQGibbon (talk) 06:20, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
But now everything in the article is notable and therefore mergeable Purplebackpack89≈≈≈≈ 14:54, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This was basically all original research of low value which is why I deleted the old article and redirected it to Martini. I hope to see something significantly more encyclopaedic than what has been restored. Efficacious (talk) 02:37, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If someone wants to merge this I'm fine with that. There are a ton of mixed drinks out there that are considered variations on the Martini so it's possible the list could get big enough to warrant separating out, but then how many of those are ever going to be notable enough to mention in such a list? Probably not that many, so I don't know what to suggest. SQGibbon (talk) 20:23, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think you're starting to see why I merged this page previously. Efficacious (talk) 21:04, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I get it. My hesitation, though, is because I don't think the Martini article is in all that good of shape as it is. The Martini is arguably the best known/most important representative of all cocktails/mixed drinks and should have a stellar article for it (a featured article at that). If it were like that then adding in well-sourced and notable drinks would be fine and then if that section became too large we could split it back out to this article. Right now it feels like a merge would be adding what is a pretty poor article into an acceptable article that needs improvement which I think would only make it more difficult to improve on.
On a related note, and forgive my tangent here, I would really like to see the cocktail project resurrected and clean up cocktail articles, ruthlessly. Basically a cocktail should not have an article unless there are at least two independent reliable sources that cover the drink in significant detail. "Significant" does not mean listing the recipe with a few words about how wonderful it is. "Significant" is a detailed account of the history of the drink, discussions of cultural relevance and significance, and so on. SQGibbon (talk) 23:08, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
