Dates of artist's birth and death

[edit]

For the purposes of this list, please give artists' dates of birth and death in terms of years only. The full dates and places should be supplied in the individual artist's page. E.g.,

(See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)#Dates of birth and death for further information.) Askari Mark | Talk 16:00, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming

[edit]

Since the term "Artist's medals" is all but unknown, I am renaming this article to the more appropriate "Medallic Art", and the more conventional term "art medals" should be employed in the expansion of this article. Askari Mark (Talk) 02:34, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to me

[edit]

that in a list of this sort the Unites States should be listed under United States rather then America. I am not opposed to using "America" a lot of the time, but not in a list such as this one. I'll probably do it, but not now and not if I hear a large collective moan or something. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 16:52, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think I will do this now. Carptrash (talk) 23:41, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am beginning to remove names

[edit]

that are red links and have no other information, reference or birthdate or something. Feel free to join in, or suggest that I desist, if that's how you feel. Carptrash (talk) 22:31, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can we perhaps leave anyone born before 1800? Probably not many of them. The list (who knows where it came from) seems to derive from a listing of maybe the 1st half of the 20th century, & is top-heavy with 19th century bods. Some may have articles under variant names maybe? Johnbod (talk) 22:41, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am inclined to leave anyone who had dates listed after the name. For now. I just created a very random Rudolf Marschall article just to see what happens. I might be more selective. I don't wish to totally eviscerate the article but I do get tired of red links on these lists. Of which, I am sure that you are aware, there are a lot of. Carptrash (talk) 23:02, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The usual Wikipedian way of removing redlinks is to add articles; they are an invitation to do so. I began these back when I had a lot of free time, which I don't now. There is material available on these artists, but I simply no longer have the time to work on them. They are heavy on pre-20th century medallists simply because I know the era beter and have more material on them. Askari Mark (Talk) 18:37, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would say that he usual wikiway of removing redlinks involves the "DELETE" key, while writing a stub or better yet, an article is the preferred method. Quibbling? Perhaps, but a list that is mostly red is not all that useful to most wikipedia users. However I do respect your efforts in setting this up and have been inclined to leave those artists who have at least dates or other information next to their names. There are ongoing issues at lists such as List of architects where every architectural firm in the worlds wants to be included and end up as a red link - where they do not last long. It is this kind of judgement call that makes wikipedia difficult at times. But thanks for posting about this. Carptrash (talk) 16:27, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template

[edit]

Instead of markup like:

*[[:fi:Kauko Räsänen|Kauko Räsänen (1926 – 2015) fi]]

this page should us markup like:

* {{ill|Kauko Räsänen|fi}} (1926 – 2015)

which renders as:

but will appear as a regular link once the article on this project is created. {{ill}} is a shortcut for {{interlanguage link}}. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:40, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
