Fellow post-nominal letters

I added all of the societies from the AMA and AACOM listings. But the fellow abbreviations need to be individually checked. Some organizations do not have fellows. All of the empty fellow cells need to be checked. Maybe for ones without fellows, we could put a "-" in the cell to indicate that there is no fellowship and it has been checked. --Scott Alter 07:28, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Black people?

That field isn't really specialty, but more of the focus of the organization. I used "Black people", since that is a wikipedia article that exists. I'm not sure if "African Americans" is more appropriate...I'm not familiar with the objectives of NMA. --Scott Alter 22:49, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Found this list of all U.S. specialty colleges, in an AMA publication. Organized by specialty type. Could be useful. The list starts on page 42.

Allopathic

This term is poorly understood, and has several meanings, including derogatory ones. I have replaced the term with MD or other, well understood and unambiguous, words where appropriate. I had no expectation that this would be controversial, and I'm sure they are good changes that the community will approve of. Allopathic should appear where appropriate (homeopathy, allopathic medicine, etc), but not in any article where links to MD or similar are more specific, while capturing the entire intended meaning, without the derogatory overtones. --88.149.234.175 (talk) 20:32, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List criteria

I just went through the list and revised it a bit. For inclusion, it should be located in the US and fit one of the following:

Associated with the AMA, AACOM, or AAPS (listed on the web pages in the External links section)
Contain mostly physicians (For this, I looked at the composition of the organizations' board of directors - if they were MDs or DOs, they should be on this list. Otherwise, the organization is probably better listed as an allied health association.)
