Contested deletion

[edit]

This article should not be speedy deleted as being recently created, having no relevant page history and duplicating an existing English Wikipedia topic, because... (Of course it covers the same topic as the article European Council, it is a list of the current members of that institution; but just like List of current United States senators is not a duplication of United States Senate, this is not a duplication of European Council. It does expand upon the main article. It includes plenty of information that would make the template included in the article too long and cluttered. It provides links to the elections (and re-elections) of each member, and to the next election they’ll face. It shows the share of the population represented by each member; useful given the voting system used. It specifies which member is a head of government and which a head of state. And of course, it allows sorting all this information and all the information also included in the main article, to (for example) see who are the most recent members, or the members representing the most population, or those who will have elections next, or to sort by affiliation and quickly see all the members from a given political group. It’s true it doesn’t expand upon European Council as much as List of current United States senators does upon United States Senate, but that is a much older, and therefore much more complete, article. This one is however not recently created either, at least not according to Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#A10. Recently created article that duplicates an existing topic, which says “Pages older than about 3–6 weeks are unlikely to be considered recently recreated; pages older than about 3–4 months almost never are.”. This article was created over 15 months ago. It had also been edited by over 30 different editors before this nomination, none of whom indicated any opposition to its existence. I think it still needs to be improved, and expanded, but not deleted.) --Brainiac242 (talk) 21:14, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Adding my partially written and not uploaded but now superseded WP:A10 decline: "Reviewing WP:A10, in my opinion this article is not a candidate for speedy deletion under that criterion. It is not recently created, having been started in March 2022. While I agree that there is some substantial duplication, perhaps a better outcome would possibly be a transclusion..."
Also adding WP:COPYWITHIN statement.--Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 11:13, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
