German history and flags

[edit]

The article has several errors as regards assigning aircraft to different periods of 20th century German history and the associated national flag:

- Of the WW2 period aircraft, The Junkers F 13, Junkers A50 Junior, Junkers W 34/K 43 and Raab-Katzenstein RK-26 are identified as deriving from Germany with the swastika flag, i.e., from the Third Reich (1933-45). In fact, however, the F 13 was produced between 1920-32, the A50 between 1929-32 and the RK-26 also between 1929-32 while the W34/K43 entered production in 1926 and even though production lasted until 1936, the original 7 Finnish aircraft were acquired in 1930. All of these types thus belong historically to the period of the Weimar Republic (1919-32), which did NOT use the Nazi swastika flag but a flag with a black, red and yellow horizontal stripe similar to the flag of the present Federal Republic (see List of German flags). It should be noted that the year of acquisition by the Finnish Air Force does not necessary indicate purchase of new aircraft; many of the aircraft entering the Air Force registry in 1939 were civilian or National Guard aircraft donated or taken into Air Force service during the Winter War (1939-40), while a number of K 43's were bought used from Germany in 1944.

- Of the interwar types, the Junkers A 35 is identified as produced by the German Empire (1871-1918) with its black-white-red striped flag. This type, however, was produced only starting 1926 and thus also belongs to the period of the Weimar Republic.--Jarmo K. (talk) 16:13, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
