Discussion about the use of abbreviations in these lists

[edit]

I have started a discussion at Talk:List of abbeys and priories in England#Use of abbreviations which applies to all of the "List of monastic houses in X" (where X = counties of England) articles. The contributions of any interested editor would be welcome.— Rod talk 12:28, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bakewell Monastery

[edit]

I'm removing the "Bakewell Monastery" from the list.

Bakewell Monastery - monks or secular minster - founded before 949

It had no reference. I have tried to research it and have found no record of a monastery. From what I can gather, this entry has confused an Anglo-Saxon Minster, which was built at Bakewell, with a monastery.

Waingroves Preceptory

[edit]

I am removing Waingroves Preceptory from the list and merging the article with the one for the village of Waingroves. There was never a preceptory at Waingroves. The land was donated to the Knights Hospitallers but a preceptory was never built: a manor house was, and the land tenanted out.
