The following were listed on National day of mourning before the split and had either no source or were not yet moved into the list.

State officials[edit]

  • President of Burundi Pierre Nkurunziza, died unexpectedly on 8 June 2020, aged 55, at the Fiftieth Anniversary Hospital in Karuzi.[1] The Burundian government gave his cause of death as a heart attack,[1] but some in the media suspect he died of COVID-19.[2] A week earlier, The Standard reported his wife had flown without him to Nairobi, Kenya, for COVID-19 treatment.[2][3] Seven national days of mourning were announced following his death.[4]
  • Pranab Mukherjee the former President of India passed away on 31 August 2020. India declared a 7 days national mourning and Bangladesh declared a one-day mourning on the demise of the former president.
  • Former Philippine President Benigno Aquino III died on June 24, 2021, due to renal disease, secondary to diabetes. President Rodrigo Duterte then announced a 10-day mourning period from June 24 to July 3, 2021.[5]
