How could Ted Radcliffe have pitched to a batter two years AFTER he died?

- Ah. It was probably 1997 when he made the pitch. Hmm. His wiki says it was 1999. I'll change it to that for now.

I believe that Jerry Barber actually holds the record for the oldest professional golfer, though he only played in 1 tournament at that age. Looking at his wiki, he was indeed a professional. He was 77 years old when he played in the 1994 Buick Invitational.

Track and Field[edit]

The sport of Track and Field does not have the same kind of dividing line as other "Professional" sports. It was only in the 1970's that elite athletes started to get paid for their performances. Olympic medalists Bob Richards and Bruce Jenner cashed in after their competitive days by product endorsements. Some senior athletes have managed to attain sponsorships simply for wearing a brand while competing. Masters athletics is the division of the sport where athletes compete into, as mentioned, their hundreds. I edited the separate section for Field Events out of this list, though if you wish to limit the Track and Field section to runners, there are documented cases of runners at age 101 or 102. Everett Hossack, who was on Jay Leno's show at age 101, is the first name that comes to mind, though he might have been surpassed.Trackinfo (talk) 23:51, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This seem to be the sole category on this list where masters participants are eligible. If we used that for the others, then the golf and bodybuilding categories would need to be changed as well.Mk5384 (talk) 07:16, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Needs Work[edit]

This page is riddled with inaccuracies and inconsistencies. Al Beckles was 61, not 53, in 1991. I have changed that. Many golfers have played professionally past the age of 74, although I don't know what criteria is being used here. Gordie Howe played one shift of pro hockey at age 69. There have been professional boxers older than 60. This page needs citations, as well as clear explanations as to what the qualifications for each sport are.Mk5384 (talk) 06:03, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have replaced Old Tom Morris with Jerry Barber in the golf category. Barber played in The Buick Invitational at age 77. Again, I'm sure persons much older than 77 have played pro golf-this page needs set criteria.Mk5384 (talk) 03:43, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I was ignorant in not realizing that this very issue is mentioned above. Still, we need to find out if Senior Tour events are to be included, as the track and field category clearly includes masters participants.Mk5384 (talk) 07:02, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What qualifies as "professional"? To me it means being able to have that profession as your major income. Therefore people of the Senior Tour ought to be included. If you apply the same criteria to the people mentioned in the article, that would mean that Gordie Howe's one shift at the age of 69 and Ted Radcliffe's one pitch at 96 is out. Otherwise you might as well add Oscar Swahn to the list - he won a silver medal at the summer olympics in 1920...he was 72 years old at the time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.114.34.228 (talk) 20:55, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Helms[edit]

... lacks an article or ref ... --Epeefleche (talk) 02:51, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, Helms did not compete at age 87 -- he died at age 87, so someone must have thought it meant oldest living athlete who once did compete ... either way, he's not the one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.127.94.7 (talk) 20:36, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

American Football[edit]

Manfred Burgsmüller played for the NFL Europe until 2002, when he was 52. RalfHuels (talk) 11:45, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Football or soccer for United States people[edit]

There is an english goalkeeper who is still playing professional football and he is older than Stanley Matthews on his last times. He is Kevin Poole. Can't be added to the page?
