Discussion

[edit]

Another 'Sligo person' worth including is Jack B Yeats, famous painter and brother of William B Yeats. He as born in the UK but had large sligo connections. J.Owens 137.191.232.98 (talk) 09:31, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand why 'Sligo People' should be deleted. Other places have such sub-heads. Admittedly, it is far from comprehensive, but I and others will add to it.

  • The reason was that it didn't make sense to anyone who hasn't heard of County Sligo. It's best if you add more information than just names, e.g. date of birth/death, and what they are famous for, or someone else may try to get this deleted. Kappa 14:37, 24 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • OK, most of what's below has just been answered in the post above, but some of it still applies:
I nominated it because as it stands it looks like complete gibberish (hence the "patent nonsense" notice). What are "Sligo people" first of all? What is "Sligo"? (As an aside, the convention for naming articles like this is to use "List of Sligo people".) You need to provide an intro and explain what the article is about. At the moment it looks like juvenile vandalism, which is why I nominated it. p.s. next time please sign your comments by typing four tildes after what you've written, like so: ~~~~ . This will expand to show your username (or IP address if you're not registered) and the time you posted like so → Zunaid 14:53, 24 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted dj trolley

[edit]

I have twice removed references to dj trolley (aka Glen Scanlon) from this list. I can't find any reference anywhere else, either in print or on the net, to who this person is and what connections he has to Sligo. If you insist on putting his details here again, please cite references. Thanks. --The.Q 12:28, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dont worry about it - he is not a notable Vintagekits 14:07, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pauline McGlynn

[edit]

Unless anyone disagrees, I am considering deleting Pauline as she is a Galway native. I know she has Sligo roots but I think we are strecthing on a number of the entries on this page. Vintagekits 14:05, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List Order

[edit]

I think the list is too messy - I think the list should be organised in a similar fashion to that of Killkenny's list - i.e. split the people born in sligo, to those who lived there, to those associated with sligo, to those burried there Vintagekits 15:33, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like a good idea to me, Vintagekits. I'll help where I can with research, Etc., but i don't have huge amounts of time. --The.Q 12:06, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ditto - i might give it a go now, have a look later Vintagekits 21:42, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Town or County?

[edit]

I'm wondering if this list is about people from the town Sligo or the whole county Sligo. I guess it's mixed. It would be very nice, if somebody would answer. - Lilchen (talk) 09:06, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Chris O'Dowd shouldn't count

[edit]

I don't think Chris O'Dowd should count. O'Dowd was most likely just born in Sligo General Hospital as it's the nearest hospital to his actual hometown of Boyle, County Roscommon where his parents were most likely living at the time.--Travy1991 (talk) 19:32, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
