List of Cajun instrument makers

So why can't there be a List of Cajun instrument makers on Wikipedia? It seems this would a viable list that would be of interest locally and nationally since they are highly sought after. I've tried and the list got shot down. "Too many red links" was the issue. Seems to me this is trivial. Anyone wanna give this artical a shot? Falcanary 03:50, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Nevermind. I went ahead and added the list to this article. Falkonry 17:18, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Not necessarily Cajuns

If the musicians are not Cajuns, I believe that they would belong in the category of "Musicians playing Cajun-styled music." An American wouldn't necessarily be a French musician just because he sings songs written by French people. Likewise, an American wouldn't be a Cajun musician simply because he sings songs that were written by Cajuns. Also, if the songs have English lyrics, they're English songs--not Cajun songs. Cajun music requires Cajun lyrics. RoyAlcatraz 16:11, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Good point. I'll add that section. However, i'm not sure what constitues a person who's "Cajun". How about someone who has a Cajun last name? How about someone who doesn't have any Cajun blood but was born and grew up in Lafayette around Cajun food and music and speaks French? Defining a Cajun is tough today because of the diluted bloodlines but maybe there is a need for this section. Artists/Bands listed by Genre?

I propose listing the artists/bands by genre so that readers have an idea what kind of music they play. As is, you have no idea whether someone is historic or contemporary. The main page for Cajun music is listing some sub-genres that could be used here. On that page, artists/bands are listed with their genres, but someone suggested that the number of artists named is long and could indeed grow longer with additions from other users. This page would seem to be the place for listing the most important artists/bands for readers to know about.Npomea 16:46, 24 August 2007 (UTC)Npomea

I read the discussion on the cajun music talk page and I think it's a very good idea that would make the list more informative and easier to read. However, I don't think the length of the page would really matter because you can just use the Contents links to jump to the section you want to read. There's no need to scroll down the long list when you can simply click a link. RoyAlcatraz 03:13, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
I've created the sections and moved some links. However, several groups may fall into more than one category. In this case, list them in all the categories they fit in. Falkonry 16:30, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
I have reordered some artists by genre. I didn't touch the Other Artists or Band list where there is a lot of duplication. I added some people who were not musicians per se but should probably appear in any discussion of Cajun Renaissance, e.g. Barry Ancelet, Revon Reed, and Paul Tate. I also added some reference. For the dancehall era, the Cajun French Music Association Hall of Fame gives bios of many of the artists. In general, the Cajun music entry and the List of Cajun Musicians entry have a deficit of references. This year Ryan Brasseaux and Kevin Fontenot's book, Accordions, Fiddles, Two Step, and Swing, is a good compilation of writings. By the way, I screwed up the code for the references I added. If you know how to fix that, please go ahead.Npomea 20:55, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Npomea

Notable Cajun People

As you may have noticed, i've created a redirect to this page. This allows people to add non-Cajun music related people to the page. People such as Barry Ancelet and Marc Savoy, whom while are heavily involved in the Cajun music industry, don't necessarily fit in the article List of Cajun Musicians. I hope this resolves that issue and emcompases all Cajun music related people. Let me know what changes could improve this. Falkonry 22:22, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Robert Bertrand

The Robert Bertand link is for a Canadian politician, not the Cajun musician. I can't see how to edit that. Can somebody here fix that? Npomea 15:03, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Npomea

Fixed it. Falkonry 21:11, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

anyone familiar with the STENO GRIELY SUEY DUET, mispelled?

New formatting

I propose we update the list to be more professional looking. Also, since this is about people related to cajun music, not bands, I think we should rearrange it a little for the musicians:

Musician Instrument(s) Member of
Nathan Abshire Cajun accordion The Pinegrove Boys
J. B. Fuselier Fiddle J. B. and His Merrymakers

I think this would emphasize people more and not the band ex: Nathan Abshire and the Pinegrove Boys. If other members of the band are noteworthy, they should be in the list. Michael miceli (talk) 16:11, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
