Updating Place List

[edit]

I have added a number of towns and villages around the North, North-East and East of the County. I have also fixed a few errors on the page.--Shastrix 6 July 2005 16:53 (UTC)

I have added a few more places, i'm starting around the borders of the county then moving into the centre in an attempt not to miss any. --Shastrix 6 July 2005 21:44 (UTC)
I have expanded the Worcestershire list of places as per a request by Kudpung. I mostly used the List of UK locations page as a guide. I think the list as it stands does however contain false positives. By this I mean a settlement may belong to a neighbouring county or the settlement doesn't "fit in". At the moment it is "a list of cities, towns and villages" (and presumably hamlets), but what about former villages eaten up by towns or regions within a town or city? e.g. Spennells, part of Kidderminster or Wribbenhall, part of Bewdley. I decided to include them all, my thinking being it is easier to remove than hunt for straglers to add to the list. Finally, a mention on the ordering: I think it makes more sense to order "Wolverton, Wood Cook, Wood Norbury, Woodcote Green, Woodnorwell" rather than "Wolverton, Wood Cook, Woodcote Green, Wood Norton, Woodnorwell" as it done on the list of UK locations as I would rank a "space" higher in the alphabet than any letters, it also puts all roots together which I think is easier to navigate through. Looking through this list I notice many of the names are small places, which sometimes would be part of a larger village. Could a page be started containing those small places and giving a link to the larger, eg: Crowle Green see Crowle. Listed at http://www.british-history.ac.uk/vch/worcs/vol3/pp329-334 Not sure what to do with Bredicot, an isolated hamlet with a church! Though it has a record at http://www.british-history.ac.uk/vch/worcs/vol3/pp277-279 Brian426uk (talk) 11:36, 12 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
