Klaatu revert

[edit]

Hi Binksternet, you recently reverted the addition of Klaatu from this list, stating that they were a simple trio rather than a power trio. I'm curious how you distinguish between the two and how Klaatu doesn't qualify as a power trio—guitar, bass, drums. Thanks Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 05:26, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Klaatu is never called a power trio in the sources, so that's certainly a challenge for those who would be listing them as such.
As far as the instruments played by the band members, yes, one guy was always on drums, but the other two changed around bass and guitar duties, and they often played keyboards instead. Binksternet (talk) 05:34, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, thanks for the explanation. I think your second reason has more merit, however. Few sources refer to a power trio as such, but if the instrument configuration matches, then the group can de facto be considered a power trio, IMO. power trio edit

[edit]

I'm going to try and edit myself but just wanted to start some discussion regarding list of power trio bands. Motorhead- for a short period, they were a 4 piece with two guitar players . Mid 80s to mid 90s. Michael Burston aka Wurzel with I believe Fast Eddie Clarke and for sure 1 or 2 studio albums with Phillip Campbell. Afterwards, they reverted to a power trio. Throwing Muses has been active as a trio for some time with the departure of Tanya Donelly in 90s. Kristin Hersh also has longtime side project 50 Foot Wave. Hi McSalsa65, thanks for adding input to the page. What discussion are you hoping to start? I'm not sure I understand your intent... Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 17:34, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Revirvlkodlaku, kinda new to this so not sure I'm actually starting a new discussion, just think Throwing Muses (maybe) and 50 Foot Wave for sure qualify as " power trios". Also feel that for a decade, Motorhead stopped being a trio. Not really understanding how the editing works, figured someone else might ;) McSalsa65 (talk) 19:38, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Right, I see what you're saying. Similar entries do exist on this page, actually, such as the one for Anti-Flag. You can copy the style:

How's that? Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 21:59, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the assistance @Revirvlkidlaku. Did my 1st edit. More later McSalsa65 (talk) 15:05, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

McSalsa65, happy to help. Just a quick tip to you, typing out strings of markup and odd-sounding words/names can be a pain and often leads to errors; I find that in such situations, copy/paste can be your best friend. Wrong link(s)

[edit]

Aristocrats does not go to the band page. Did not check all. I don't know how to fix internal links. Tero111 (talk) 18:15, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Tero111. The way to change wikilinks is to use a pipe between the page name and the name you want to appear, like this: The Aristocrats. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 22:42, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion criteria should be explicit

[edit]

This list has been suffering from an "anything goes" style of inclusion. It seems that any band which was a trio at some point has been listed, in some cases without even having the right instrumentation. For instance, Years & Years was listed despite their heavy reliance on keyboards rather than electric guitar and electric bass.

I propose that the list be reduced to bands that have been described in sources as a power trio. Every entry will need to cite a source. If we change to that more restricted inclusion criteria, we will be satisfying WP:Verifiability, a hard policy. Binksternet (talk) 17:18, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree with that. There has been too much back-and-forth lately with inexperienced editors who do not understand what a power trio is, so this kind of restriction would hopefully help. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 00:26, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If we implement the tighter inclusion criteria, the article should say something explicit such as, "This is a list of rock groups that have been described as power trios – bands consisting of electric guitar, bass and drums."
That would be the bare minimum. My 2¢. Binksternet (talk) 00:48, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Full agreement. Would you like to do the honours? Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 01:07, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I can do it. One last question: what date style should this page have? If we honor (honour) Cream for being first, it would be UK style. Binksternet (talk) 01:16, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think dmy is more prevalent around the world, in which case I think it would be appropriate (which agrees with your suggestion, if I'm not mistaken!) Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 01:31, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
