UK?[edit]

If this is a list of pubs in the UK, then why are pubs in Gibraltar and Australia (Port Adelaide) included? RioVerde (talk) 21:33, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

British Overseas Territories are considered part of the UK, and former members of the British Empire now part of the Commonwealth realm are allowed if duly noted because of the historical context. Jrcrin001 (talk) 06:30, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion criteria[edit]

Shouldn't this list restrict itself to some sort of notability criteria, as is common with most lists? The majority of the currently trading pubs here are cited to their own webpages, surely a form of advertising pure and simple. They should at least be cited to some sort of reliable secondary source. After all, Wikipedia isn't meant to be used as a business directory! Sionk (talk) 12:49, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is a list of pubs named Carpenter(s) Arms that has or has existed. The notability for inclusion on this list is that they existed.

Citing from Wikipedia:No original research#Primary.2C secondary and tertiary sources:
A primary source may only be used on Wikipedia to make straightforward, descriptive statements of facts that can be verified by any educated person with access to the primary source but without further, specialized knowledge. For example, an article about a novel may cite passages to describe the plot, but any interpretation needs a secondary source. Do not analyze, synthesize, interpret, or evaluate material found in a primary source yourself; instead, refer to reliable secondary sources that do so. Do not base an entire article on primary sources, and be cautious about basing large passages on them. Do not add unsourced material from your personal experience, because that would make Wikipedia a primary source of that material.

This "article" is a list of pubs named Carpenter(s) Arms. While some primary source citations are used "to make straightforward, descriptive statements of facts that can be verified by any educated person with access to the primary source but without further, specialized knowledge." Simply the reference or citation are used to prove that such a Carpenter(s) Arms pub exists or existed. There is no intent for advertising or use as a business directory for this list. Former Carpenter(s) Arms pubs do need some information as current names or former locations. This is not advertisement but a "straightforward, descriptive statements of facts."

I count about 34 of 122 citations that are primary. This is not a majority. What is your count? If you do not get a majority on your count or accept that primary sources can be used within the limitations cited above, then you should removed the 'primary sources' template you placed.

I hope this helps explain the situation to your satisfaction. Jrcrin001 (talk) 16:07, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Too many primary sources?[edit]

Maintenance tag "This article relies too much on references to primary sources. Please improve this article by adding secondary or tertiary sources. (June 2015)"

Primary and secondary references are okay if they are used to designate or support inclusion on the list. In this case, a list of pubs named or once named Carpenter arms, can have primary references from the internet that supports inclusion on the list. If this list was one of buildings referred to as "White house" then the main web page of the US Executive Mansion aka the White House ( https://www.whitehouse.gov/ ) would be appropriate - even though it is a primary source.

Since the editor Sionk has not responded on this page, I must assume the Maintenance tag for Jun 2015 is no longer an issue. Tag removed. Jrcrin001 (talk) 01:14, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
