This will be huge...[edit]

I have some thoughts on this article. Please keep in mind, I'm not a member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Nigeria or Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools. I think that if it ever is complete, it would be so large as not to be useful. In the article Ondo State is says Ondo State contains the largest number of public schools in Nigeria - over 880 primary schools and 190 secondary schools. That is 1,070 schools just for Ondo. Do you think the project would best be served by having separate articles on Schools in (Nigerian state name). They could all link from this article. But this would duplicate some of what is in List of universities in Nigeria, Category:Universities and colleges in Lagos State, Category:Schools in Nigeria, Category:Universities and colleges in Nigeria and other articles. I'm not so sure it would be worth the effort. As has been established at articles for deletion multiple times, primary and secondary schools are not automatically notable. Furthermore, Wikipedia is not a directory. The majority of these will never have articles, so why list them? I think we should just stick to the schools which are notable for something, anything at all, as opposed to making it an indiscriminate list of all 10,000+ schools. Sorting[edit]

I have sorted the schools by state, and removed primary schools with the exception of one or two which had Wikipedia articles about them. Note that my sorting may be wrong; those schools where the state was mentioned I sorted there without double-checking, and for the rest I used Google. I am not an expert on Nigerian geography. Time to split the list[edit]

At 146kB this list is now too long for many mobile devices, or those on dial-up (like many in Africa) to download.
As can be seen above, splitting the article was discussed in 2008, when the article was only 9kB long - it is now over 16 times longer.
I propose the list is split into individual states, and this page is reduced to an index of those sub-lists.
There are also other lists, such as List of schools in Lagos, which only list those schools in the city of Lagos, not the entire Lagos State - we need to decide how these will be integrated into the hierarchy. - Arjayay (talk) 12:30, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
