Questions about alternate versions of songs[edit]

I don't want to just go in and start editing, so I thought I'd ask for guidance here first. First, there are a few songs that Bowie's re-recorded but not released, do we list them here? Examples are "Baby Universal" and "Bring Me the Disco King", both of which Bowie cut in the studio for solo studio albums but didn't put on various albums for whatever reasons. ("Baby Universal" was re-recorded for Earthling and "BMtDK" twice, for Black Tie White Noise and again for Earthling.) Second, there's the whole Never Let Me Down 2018, in which the entire album was re-engineered/recorded/mastered. I'm not sure if/how these should be mentioned in the article, or if it's good enough for people just to follow wikilinks and read up in the various related article if they're interested? Third, was "Fame" really re-recorded in the '90s, or just remixed? My understanding is that it was just remixed. Thanks! 87Fan (talk) 15:21, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

87Fan "Fame '90" was just a remix; that's on me and I changed that. With Never Let Me Down 2018, from my understanding, it a remix and a remaster but since in the liner notes Bowie is only credited as producer and composer (since he passed away two years before may he rest in peace), I don't think it qualifies as "re-recorded", since Bowie didn't personally do anything with it. I had thought about mentioning it but since I only mention the original album in a note, I don't think it's that important to mention the 2018 remaster, especially since Never Let Me Down is certainly seen as one of Bowie's least-respected releases (other than "Time Will Crawl"). For those other tracks you mentioned, I think those could be mentioned in notes in the table, as long as there are RS's to back them.
Sidenote: Thanks for noticing what I've done with the list. I originally started editing it back in 2017 but eventually took a break to work on other projects. But last summer I heard Ziggy Stardust for the first time and blew my mind at how great that album is (perfect 10/10) and also made me upset at how I never once really paid attention to him before. I then heard Hunky Dory and his Best of Bowie compilation and was hooked. After that, I knew I had to do this list justice, especially since his other lists are FLs and his main page is FA. I also recently listened to Station to Station, Low, and "Heroes" and am really impressed (though I don't think Ziggy Stardust will ever be topped, at least for me). Anyways, if you wanna add some stuff go for it. I added the note about his re-recorded stuff today because I knew it was important and completely forgot to mention it. Just make sure what you add is sourced and benefits the article and the reader. Happy editing :-) – zmbro (talk) 03:34, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
