Expansion

[edit]

I think this list should be expanded to include modern browser-based and downloaded text games. They are not a piece of gaming history. There are still many being created - preferred by developers because they aren't hard to build. I suggest PC be split up into:

Only Text

Internet

Misc.

...

I agree that a better sorting system would be optimal -- some way to separate the roguelikes, Kroz-alikes and works of interactive fiction, for instance. That said, I don't understand your proposed categories. It's true that right now MUDs, BBS Doors and PBM games are uneasily lumped in with stand-alone offline programs -- I could see distinctions made between online (where your browser-based games, and things like Urban Dead would go) and offline games. But what goes in Misc.? And by "Only Text", are you suggesting that the other categories include text-and-graphics games? (a stiff proposition, since that description covers nearly every game ever made.)

Unrelatedly, I think it's about time to un-link the years. Pseudo Intellectual 23:37, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism

[edit]

This list is idiotic - it's a "let-me-list-every-text-game-I-personally-know" page. There are over 2,000 games on the Spectrum alone, and thousands of games in the last two decades too. The list is completely unrepresentative. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.39.36.11 (talk) 13:57, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Would it be better to add all the games to Category:Interactive fiction ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.175.220.26 (talk) 19:50, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Aardvark

[edit]

There was another text game around the time of adventure and zork, also played on the PDP-11, called "aardvark".

Anyone knows its whereabouts? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.171.78.32 (talk) 14:46, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Quondam

[edit]

The game "Quondam" links to the biography of a historical individual rather than the game itself. Is there an article it should be linking to, or should the link be removed entirely? --76.10.131.160 (talk) 01:09, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wang Towers adventure

[edit]

I remember playing a game in the 80s, on a Wang VS terminal, inside the Wang Towers (now Crosspoint Towers) in Lowell, that was similar to Colossal Cave Adventure, but set in the Wang Towers. I would love to see that added to this list, but I don't remember the name of the game, or know anything else about it besides what I just outlined.

Please, if you know anything about this game, add it to Wikipedia!Rich (talk) 17:34, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for NAME of 1980s DOS text based game

[edit]

I am looking for the name of an IF text-based non graphic game my parents and I played on a DOS computer in the 1980s. The first sentence was something like, “You see a sleeping unicorn.” It only allowed two word responses. You had to find four different colored keys to four kingdoms.
