Has John Baird come out of the closet yet? Can we list him here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.119.240.45 (talk) 22:38, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The answer to both questions is still no, as of July 2014. And even if he had come out, what office would he be the first LGBT holder of? Bearcat (talk) 04:06, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Would it be wise to include Richard Hatfield as the first LGBT Premier in Canadian history? The question hinges on the fact he never came out as gay in his lifetime, despite it being an widely know "open secret" to quote his Wikipedia page. I could see why we might hesitate to include individuals who didn't come out themselves, but on the flipside it wasn't really something he could have done at the time without risking his position. 107.179.154.125 (talk) 04:52, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

For the purposes of this list, it's appropriate to acknowledge Hatfield's sexuality, but precisely because he wasn't out he doesn't get to take the historic first away from Kathleen Wynne — being out is what matters in this context. Bearcat (talk) 06:36, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
