"Private" universities? Is that title really proper?[edit]
Although there are private universities and school in the Chinese system, I think that this categorization doesn't apply in a satisfactory way to both Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University and the Monash-Dongnan joint school. Although their financial balance relies mainly on student fees and partly on the joint schools' own investment, and although the question may remain partly unanswered in the case of XJTLU, Monash-Dongnan, definitely, remains a mere school of Dongnan University, and as such doesn't benefit from the status of legal person (and as such is administratively dependent to Southeast University, which is clearly a public university).
If we wish to underline the specificity of these universities and schools while not overstepping on uncertain grounds, I propose to rename the "private" section into something akin to "sino-foreign cooperations", which will also fit nicely the cases of both the Kunshan-based Duke University (which has the same status as XJTLU), the Suzhou-based Sino-French institute of Renmin University of China (which doesn't), and the other related schools currently operating under the rules set by the Chinese Ministry of Education regarding sino-foreign cooperations (NUIST Reading university and the Sino-French engineering school of NUST being the likely candidates to come next). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fishbed1942 (talk • contribs) 05:20, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
